Yeah, I used to be fascinated by this when I was a little boy. Lots of the little feature pieces were animated, so the windows would open to reveal a wee character looking out a window etc. My fav was the funnel. A little chimney sweep character would pop out. I would then follow up my visit by climbing on the large "modern" art sculptures with other random kids until the security guard came to chase us off. There was a big, yellow, concrete shape and a weird, tall, spikey, red tower. Anyone remember that? I'm 35 now, so this was around 25 to 30 years ago.
@@madstanwan ha! I was in the shoppin centre just the other day for the first time in years. I'm never out of ASDA, but haven't ventured into the old section of the shoppy in years. There's a cafe right at the top before the bridge, that used to be called Roma, but since changed hands. I was there with the family n I was talking about all this. It's the first time my wee daughters have seen it. I also remembered that the flower beds in the middle of the big concrete seating things used to have a jelly material in them which fascinated me too. Not sure what it was, but it covered the soil. I tell younger people that ASDA used to be inside the shopping centre before it moved. They don't believe me haha.
Sandwiched between the two ship covers is a built in automated pipe organ, a blower activates on the hour and the air gets diverted to the pipes via valves that are controlled by a central computer inside the unit.
smile and a single tear.
Amazing stuff
So fantastic to see this old thing going again after so long!
