thanks for the video to this amazing track! i really love the way the vocals get drenched in heavenly layers of reverb toward the end of the track. it still sounds magical! cheers!
The most original sound of the 80s. I absolutely love this tune. But my all-time favourite track of the associates is 18 Caret Love Affair, an absolute masterpiece 🎙🎶 great post
It's lovely to see another european country appreciating top class uk music. Martha Ladly really is stunning, we are lucky she graced our island with her presence.
I was watching this when it first aired on Dutch TV. It was an alternative music show called Götterdämmerung 2000 on the VPRO channel. Not sure how many episodes there were but I think 3 at most. Wish they'd done more.
What a voice, and what a superb sound! I only have a question, why did they not get the success they really deserved, for me it is unbelievable! With love and respect, from Italy
Martha Ladly ❤ what an absolutely stunning lady, a brilliant song and brings back so many great memories of being 17 and starting to really explore and discover life!!
Alan R. died the other day. I don't know why. :-( This video and song are still bizarrely majestic and the song still sounds like it comes from the future. Somehow.
Since Limmy played this bastard song on stream two months ago I've not been able to escape it. A genuinely enchanting song which I had no idea about. Well done all.
I was a little bit (ok a lot) in love with Martha Ladly. I was only 12 in 1982, mind... 🤭🙈 What a group they were, so sad that Billy left this world way too soon.

The Associates! One of Scotland’s greatest exports! Apparently David Bowie was a big fan…
Just got to say thank you for loading my favourite version of this iconic song
@@jameshills4380 I'm glad you found and enjoyed this song James
Never appreciated how good the bassline on this is. One of the great tracks of the 80s, though written in I think 76
Epic song, what a voice.
My favourite single of all time. It's perfect. it helped me in 1982. Lovely Martha. Alan, Billy we will miss you forever.
Superb!
The end is so hauntingly beautiful. RIP Billy 🥀
🙏
We'd sit in front of our high school with this on the ghetto blaster. Life was perfect.
Nice to see Martha, sans Muffins, in her smart uniform!
She looks amazing
@@Useaname She's such a poser, but always stunning nonetheless 😜
I'd love to meet her😊
I would have missed that if not for the comments; wonder how this happened.
@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music Missed what?
80s perfection a new romance classic, RIP Billy such a sad loss. Martha is the epitome of glamour, what a woman
What a voice, what lyrics, what a tune...still have my 45. Sublime.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Best thing ever to have come out of Dundee.
True
Apart from the road to Perth.😁
My all time favorite song, the lyrics are incredibly beautiful and mysterious. The same can also be said about Martha on keyboard
Absolute masterpiece that'll live forever.
Blimey, Alan Rankine on keyboards was looking uncharacteristically gorgeous that night!
Such an incredible bass line by the late Alan Rankine on this track. He was such a talented multi-instrumentalist.
Great song but the bass blows my mind
That's Michael Dempsey. Rankine doesn't appear in this (playback) version.
@@charonbadmann8904 Dempsey was also in The Cure and Lotus Eaters! What a CV!
blimey this takes me back, 3RRR9melbourne community radio) loved these guys , there was some crazy stuff in the early 80s
The most original sound of the 80s. I absolutely love this tune. But my all-time favourite track of the associates is 18 Caret Love Affair, an absolute masterpiece 🎙🎶 great post
For me one of the greatest tracks of the 80’s!
Absolutely
I was only 7 years old when this was released. Loved it then and still love it now❤
@@flipflop1975ify It never seems to fade, remains a classic track.
THE best lad
This and club country were the very best of the 80’s for me
It's lovely to see another european country appreciating top class uk music. Martha Ladly really is stunning, we are lucky she graced our island with her presence.
Thanks for watching and commenting Phil. Martha does look stunning here.

Incredible. Sad that Alan was missing. Martha looks so fantastic. And Michael's bass playing is the best.
What a voice, and what a superb sound! I only have a question, why did they not get the success they really deserved, for me it is unbelievable! With love and respect, from Italy
Billy's voice is, IMO, perfect. My favourite voice of all time. He evokes absolute emotions in every song he sings.
Him and Mercury deffo best voices ever. Hmmm maybe include George Micheal with them.
Billy was unique 🕊
An Absolutely Supreme Standout Memory From These Amazing Artists.
From An Era Of Brilliant Music.
Cheers 🍻 👏 ✌️ 🥂 For This Timeless Memory. ❤❤❤.
Brilliant, scottish glamour, uncharacteristic I know, but it works for me. Good man, Billy! Martha's hot.
RIP Billy. Absolute legend!
🙏
You will never find Generative AI writing a song like this. The past was inventive and exciting. The future will be bland.
Massive song for me in the 80s. One of a kind brilliant
WHAT A SONG/TUNE, Amazing Sound !!!
Great Outro 🎤
I think you are one of the very few to ever notice or mention it, but it is one thing I really liked about this recording
I miss Alan Rankine here, but very nice performance. I like how Billy and Martha Ladly smile at each other.
Yeah, so this was maybe late ‘82, when he decided to leave after the Sulk tour disappointment.
Alan had walked at this stage. Very sad
I loved the cheekiness that there always was between Billy & Martha...really came through in 18 Carat Love Affair performance on totp 😅
Never tire of this song .
Martha Ladly ❤ what an absolutely stunning lady, a brilliant song and brings back so many great memories of being 17 and starting to really explore and discover life!!
Agreed, she's a great looking lady
Hot damn! Martha makes that uniform look good.
Classic 80s song, complete with dubious 80s video effects :) Many thanks!
Totally and utterly unique. Thanks for sharing.
Thanx life saving band. ..he/they never knew.❤
Thank you for watching and commenting Michael
Perfection,
Alan R. died the other day. I don't know why. :-( This video and song are still bizarrely majestic and the song still sounds like it comes from the future. Somehow.
He died in January. Heart disease. :-(
😢
And the lovely Martha Ladly on keyboards!
❤🌹🌹

In Scotland this is our 'Blue Monday' but only for the esoteric.
The legendary Associates👏🏻
This song is totally unique.
A total classic. I'm about to start recording a version!
Good luck with that 🙂
bassline is immense
Sheer brilliance..
100 percent pure talent.

Dempsey is a bass genius
I was a little bit (ok a lot) in love with Martha Ladly. I was only 12 in 1982, mind... 🤭🙈

Perfect for that #Lockwoodandco scence…loved it.
That bass line though!
I want to learn it, but don't have the skill level yet
Thanks for watching and commenting Chris
What are those uniforms? RAF with a mix of bus conductors and Gestapo 😊? Best song ever BTW 😊👍
and the amazing Martha Ladly.
👍❤
preferred Club Country but alway good to see Associates video especially as they are both no longer with us
Three of them are gone now, the drummer John Murphy died in 2015
I never knew about John. How sad
Fcukin Brilliant. RIP Billy
🙏
Strange. I was/is a fan of Martha & the Muffins. Only saw this video today for the first time. I had no idea that was Martha Ladly.
So sad how he died Billy had a voice that's never been heard of since R I P BILLY
Thanks for watching and commenting
❤🙏
👍🏻❣
An amazing unique song and the music arrangement is pure genius!
I suppose there is a reason for the terrible picture quality?
Rip from oscar it's my best song😢
Have always loved women in uniform 🔥🔥❤️🔥
She does look fantastic
❤❤❤
Music used to be so great didnt it!
Where is Alan
The Divine Comedy's cover of this is pretty spectacular.
I will look it up and give it a listen, thanks for letting me know about it.
🚿☎️☕
Think I'll ask Martha out if she wears that uniform 😂
Where’s alan?
Where's Alan?
This is the real deal not that crappy Duran Duran, culture club rubbish

The musicians are good. The singer should be doing opera or broadway musicals. The lyics are the worst I have ever heard..lol Martha is so hot.
