I just learned a couple of days ago that Eleonore was leaving Voces8 (her replacement was just announced on social media today). Eleonore - you brought such an amazing quality of sound to that group and you demonstrate that incredible skill here in this setting as well. I understand both from what you've shared publicly and through how you sing these words that your faith is an important part of your life - I wish you all the best as you journey forward in that faith. God bless --
You're so right Robert, Ele sounds beautiful in any setting! I'm lucky to call her a close friend and her faith really is at the heart of all she does 🥰
@@johnllewlyndavies222 Ah thanks so much John, we're glad you like it. Merry Christmas to you too, hopefully we'll put some more stuff up in the new year!
Eleonore has to be one of the most versatile singers I've ever heard. With VOCES8 she has done Bach/Baroque style, Italian madrigal style, contemporary acapella, celtic style. She sings them all and sounds completely different and perfect in each one
1. When I survey the wond'rous Cross On which the Prince of Glory dy'd, My richest Gain I count but Loss, And pour Contempt on all my Pride. 2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the Death of Christ my God: All the vain Things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his Blood. 3. See from his Head, his Hands, his Feet, Sorrow and Love flow mingled down! Did e'er such Love and Sorrow meet? Or Thorns compose so rich a Crown? 4. His dying Crimson, like a Robe, Spreads o'er his Body on the Tree; Then am I dead to all the Globe, And all the Globe is dead to me. 5. Were the whole Realm of Nature mine, That were a Present (offering) far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my Soul, my Life, my All.
Sarah there are but several wonderful tunes to Isaac Watts great hymn so beautifully undertaken by you and Eleonore. The British and Welsh have captured these beautiful words in the settings to the tunes: "Rockingham" or "Hamburg" and then of course this rendition to the tune "O Waly Waly". The Welsh have that glorious setting Morte Christe which is simply stunning. We always have to give thanks for what the British have given in the world of music. You have blessed us greatly. Thank you for sharing your gift of music.
I came here quite sad. Ok, heartbroken because I just learned that voces8 had had to cancel their Graz/Austria concert three days from now AGAIN because of this pandemic. From the cancellation I went on to learn that Eleonore Cockerham had left voces8, so I won't be able to hear her as part of this amazing ensemble again. :-( But: This song touches my soul immensely. Both of your voices in perfect harmony with each other, sublime guitar playing - and the feeling, that you are really feeling what you are singing. Thank you!
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! We're hoping to do some more work together so hopefully that will make up a tiiiiiny bit for Eleonore leaving Voces8! So glad you enjoyed the song - it's a special one for us.
This is a great recording of this wonderful hymn. I am so impressed by your abilities to make this a duet. I look forward to seeing and hearing more from you.
Thank you so much, Mark! We sing another duet on my upcoming album if you're interested - you can find the Kickstarter campaign here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/misplacedplans/album-misplaced-plans
@@SarahBeattieMusic Yes, it is the same melody notes of the song "The River is Wide" or a similar folk song I sang in my college Glee Club days in America. Sarah your voice and talents are a true ministry. May your continued collaboration with Ele and other talented muscians always bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). God Bless.

Absolutely stunningly beautiful. Great interpretation of a great hymn. Pure inspiration.

hello ms loveridge it's Grace I love your singing!
❤ thanks ❤❤
Is this the same melody as "The Water is Wide"? It sounds similar.
I don't know "The Water is Wide" - it could well be similar! I think this is a more modern tune to an older hymn.
Yes, it is the same tune.
