I was commanding the Swedish Army during this battle (NPL iSandlwana) ... Thanks so much to Pixellated Apollo for uploading this replay. It was an amazing battle to play, really enjoyed it. The reason you saw very little Swedish on the battlefield was I took a HUGE cavalry build, with only a handful of Infantry units which were on our left flank (right of the mini-map) to try and keep the Austrians busy (kite etc) whilst we pushed really hard on the other side.
Since there is no strategic winner, I counted the casualty percentages French Alliance Deployed: 6983 Dead: 4054 Casualty percentage(Rounded):58.1% --------------------------------- Austrian Alliance Deployed:10092 Dead: 5509 Casualty percentage(Rounded): 54.6% Austria wins percentage-wise France wins actual number-wise(As they had less troops and lost less then Austria)
Yeah, but it's interesting how different in size they are... 3000 of difference, I guess Sweden ( with the french ) didnt brought too much. But I dont know, I would called it a strategic draw, since the 1st alliance killed more.
I don' agree with this rule, if you look at the results player by player : you find that the russian army and the second french army did very well destroying than they lost , their 2 allies swedish and first french army are cloed to the equilibrium, and the other team the polish army and the prussian army bet negative results lossing more than they destroyed and the 2 austrian armies are at the equilibrium , so for me the first team won the game !!

Okay, fun story, I always play the Spaniard in Napoleon. And one time I figured out how strong guerrilla soldiers really are. I had the two units that Spain has in the forests not too far away from my main army of fusiliers and lights with some grenadiers and Walloon Guards and hussars. I was with the Brits versing off two French armies. We were losing heavily, they were doing charge after charge after charge, and the British ha e already used up their King German Legion and BlackWatch, which were utterly destroyed by the overwhelming French. Then what I like to call the March of Death happened, where we took a more defensive position and forced them to go across a clearing, and in the trees surrounding the clearing were my vanguard troops. They casually marched their troops across (they were very cocky at this point) and my light infantry were gunning them down, but it wasn’t enough. Soon they had Old Guard shooting us down until finally, bullets came flying out of the trees and dropping at least five Old Guards with each volley until we did a massive charge into their lines, crushing them and ultimately destroying their army and winning the game. Morale of the the story: *they’re in the trees!*
One of the biggest treats from Apollo :) Great video man! Keep up the good work as per usual! Looking forward to seeing you next week Friday if you can make it (and if you know what I mean) :P
On the topic of the soldiers not wanting to kill their enemies, only scare them with their muskets, it's interesting to note that bayonet charge had the same effect, bayonet charges would be quite effective at scaring enemy regiments away, I mean, I wouldn't hold my ground if 100 angry Russians charged at me. This was all turned on its head in the American Civil War, when lines would just stand opposite eachother firing and reloading, firing and reloading over and over, without charging, resulting in terrible casualties.
What i'd love to see in a mod is realistic accuracy, with swathes of men cut down. but jack up the morale so that they don't break until the last couple men. It would be way more realistic and entertaining in my opinion. let me know what you think!
More entertaining for sure, but only a few units would stand and fight to the last few men with their comrades being wiped out all around them. The morale is perfectly fine as it is imo
even tho its 4 players and 4 minds dictating the action of the battle...this is the closest thing to a 1 army vs 1 army 1 general and his commanders vs 1 general and his commanders.....its CHAOS!
I feel like the polish uniforms are underrated. The czepka Shakos make them look like they graduated the university of kickass in Warsaw. Maybe that's why it's called Warsaw.
Isn't it insane how this battle looks huge, then you look at the numbers and it says 16000 combined troops? Insane how at Leipzig it was 600,000 men. Really puts into perspective how huge these battles were
Hey Apollo Loving the channel! Just a quick note: Deutsche fussiliere are not Dutch but German. Deutsche as in Deutschland which is often confused with Diets, an old word for the Dutch language.

Constantine XI Just as a side fact: Ney gave his own firing squad the signal to shoot. He was commanding his troops, even in certain death. Though he was a pretty lousy cavalry commander.
Hey Apollo, just wandering where you got the info on Soldiers historically not trying to kill each other? Been studying this era for a long time and never heard of that, would be interested to check it out
I played the empire total war campaign and almost beat it to realize that there was a whole other continent that I hadn't been campaigning the whole time...
The theory soldiers used to shoot over the enemy's head as far as I know largely originated from S.L.A.'s book 'men against fire.' There is some controversy whether his research is reliable.
Inaccuracy of fire in this period was not just caused by the smoothbore musket itself. Soldiers of this period, especially line infantry, were not trained to aim but instead to point. Also, after the initial volley, the white smoke blinded the units enough that they were essentially shooting in the dark. There are many documented historical examples to give evidence that this mod is pretty accurate. Also keep in mind that in this mod 1 man represents 6 men. Each unit represents a battalion or a squadron. Each artillery gun represents 2 guns, and 1 meter of in-game distance is equal to 3 meters.
Austria had the middle building, the top right building and the far right building. The French had only two buildings., the top left and bottom left buildings at the end.
Was at Leipzig last week at the battlefield memorial where Napoleon was defeated falling back from Russia, and was expecting your commentary to come out of nowhere during the tour.
Very tactical fight, brilliant game from Austria(s) They compansated the early defeat of Prussia although prussia did a good job helping austria by buying a lot of time for them keeping many french forces(5-6 units) busy and away from the town battle, yet still i wish they had more time and could defeat french forces.
Have you ever considered Reenacting? I think it would be a good idea for you to check out. I do Revolutionary War reenacting as a British soldier and it is a blast🇬🇧
Prussia and Poland in an alliance is HIGLY unlikely the Polish were allied with the Napoleon in the Napoleonic battles they had whole regiments for Polish troops in the French Army.
Pixie poo I do not know if you are aware of this but an app called War of Colony is using footage from the Zulu war video of yours. I do not know if you have let them or if they have used more of your videos but they are there.
I don’t know if it continued on into the Nepoleon Wars, but with those flintlock rifles were made troops were trained to shot and reload as fast as they can. They didn’t focus on accuracy as much, like they did in the 17th and 18th century. At least, that’s how I look at it.
Muskets were most definitely not as innaccurate as modern media portray, they were actually accurate enough to hit men from 300 feet with the average range to engage the enemy being 150 feet
This is so much reminding me of Ultimate General, so great. And I'm so bad at it :D Hope UG's next game is set in the Napoleonic Era. It's simply logical.
Instead of just building points I like that a unit destroyed or shattered gives the other side its purchase value in points. Then divide the total army budget of each side and divide by building points to get a value for each building point. Makes the buildings equal in value to troops. Emphasis on conserving army and catching positions in balance. Stops the silly single unit chases at the end of the game.
I've always found that, when the enemy gets close, a bayonet charge en masse is the best way to fix it. Of course, I only ever play against the AI, but it's on hard, so that surely counts for something.
Yes, but I've found the AI tends to get real close and charge at the last inch, so I charge to cancel out their charge bonus with mine. Man, I say charge a lot.

Since there is no strategic winner, I counted the casualty percentages
French Alliance
Deployed: 6983
Dead: 4054
Casualty percentage(Rounded):58.1%
---------------------------------
Austrian Alliance
Deployed:10092
Dead: 5509
Casualty percentage(Rounded): 54.6%
Austria wins percentage-wise
France wins actual number-wise(As they had less troops and lost less then Austria)
Yeah, but it's interesting how different in size they are... 3000 of difference, I guess Sweden ( with the french ) didnt brought too much.
But I dont know, I would called it a strategic draw, since the 1st alliance killed more.
Strategically I agree with you, but percentage wise, Austria and allies win
I don' agree with this rule, if you look at the results player by player : you find that the russian army and the second french army did very well destroying than they lost , their 2 allies swedish and first french army are cloed to the equilibrium, and the other team the polish army and the prussian army bet negative results lossing more than they destroyed and the 2 austrian armies are at the equilibrium , so for me the first team won the game !!
Hence the last line saying that France won actual numbers-wise
didn't French alliance win on points?
I just realized we take pleasure from watching thousands of computer generated humans killing each other, are we the bad guys?

No because we wouldn't do it in real life.
