    All those South African Fords were made in and exported from Australia.....

    Interesting, the South African Chevrolet SS seems to be a HG GTS Monaro

    • @thunderlips350
      @thunderlips350 4 года назад +2

      It is. Holden exported to SA... along with New Zealand and Indonesia. There was a story a while back, you can Google it, where an Aussie bought a whole bunch of SA Monaro's and brought them back to Australia to sell.

    2:08...the 1972 XY GT Falcon Phase III was, for a time, the fastest sedan in the world and it was the car that caused the Australian supercar scare. It was so fast for it's time that politicians got scared of the power that was available to the average citizen. They were basically racing cars that anyone could buy. What you could buy from the dealer was pretty much the same as what was racing at Bathurst. The saying at the time was "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday". These were great times for Australian cars. The big three, Holden, Ford and Chrysler, had some great ones. If the politicians didn't get involved, there was going to be some more, but they all got cancelled :(

    Some very nice cars in your video. I noticed you included the E38 Charger which is a great car, but the E49 Charger is the true Chrysler Australia muscle car. It could out accelerate any Aussie V8, including the Phase III GTHO yet was only a six cylinder. With a little more luck at Bathurst in 1972 it probably would have gone down as Australia greatest muscle car.

    • @7s29
      @7s29 Год назад

      The 38 was homologated, the 49 wasn't. The 38 was to have a 4 speed but, a certain manufacturer made sure it wasn't available to Chrysler at the release of the 38. Hence the 38 was released in August 71, and by may of 72 the 49 was available, that's because the 4 speed was available by then. In reality, the 38 has a 4 speed without 1st gear.
      I agree with what you've stated, except I think Australians will almost always look down at 6 cylinder cars, and will hold the V8 in high regard. It's a shame because these R/T's are really nice to drive, I know, I've had many over the years, I still have my 38, and the old girl always puts a smile on my face.

      Thanks Bill, funny how some of those cars from Mexico, Argentina and Brazil are simply just re-badged American cars like the "Serie 2" from Argentina. Their 1978 Serie 2 is just a re-badged '68 Nova. I guess GM ships their old clapped out stamping dies to third world countries once they're 10 years out of date.

      And these were designed like this to try and move the last 400 bodies. If you want to see them in action look up Bathurst 1978 opening lap on you tube

      There were two models the same body style before the XC Falcon....starting with the XA in 1972 and XB in 1973.

    • @rodneymcgiveron
      @rodneymcgiveron 3 года назад

      The base of all our Fords was the Falcon ..The U.S. dropped the Falcon in 1970 . In 1972 the first all Aussie Falcon hit the streets .. It was the XA ..followed by the XB and XC finishing in 1978 ..Then the new shape from the 1979 XD , 1982 XE , 1984 XF , . After that there was a new shape again 1988. EA 1989, EB , 1993 ED 1994 EF and 1996 EL ...then the next series beginning with the 1998 AU and two AU upgrades Then the 2002 BA and 2005 BF with upgrades .. Then the FG 2008-2014 and finally the FGX 2014 to 2016. Falcon ceased in October 2016 with nearly 4 million built from 1960 .. Prior to 1972 our Falcons closely resembled the American ones ..They were the 1960 to 1965 XK XL, XM and XP before the first big changes with the1966 XR ,1968 XT 1969,XW and 1970/71 XY ...Unlike the U.S . we have model runs but not done necessarily every year .. Cars were made every year but not specifically designated by year . None of the South African cars were from there ..They were all sourced from Australia with South African tweaks though.. ..

      For those that don't know...the 1971 Chevrolet SS is an Australian built Holden Monaro that was exported to SA. All these cars, including the SA version, are now worth big money.
