Getting an affordable hotel in Albuquerque during balloon week is a challenge. My wife and I usually stay in Belen or even Socorro and drive in to see the balloons. Lots of beautiful scenery and historic places to visit. Like any other city , there’s always the bad and good side. You just have to be very smart about it. I’m from New York , and trust me, NY is not what you expect. Very ghetto and dirty. Lots of crime. Definitely not what you expect from NYC. You have to be smart when traveling & choosing a place to stay. I’ve learned the hard way when I visited Florida.

I could tell some tales, but bottom line....I will never set foot in that place ever again as long as I live. You learn when your luck is up, and any single day or night there could end your life or a loved one's. It isn't worth it for green chili and good art, not by a long shot.

      BS! I lived in ABQ for 11 years and NEVER ran into any crime or situations that you wrote about - yes I’ve been all over the city and ABQ’s rough parts are NOTHING like the ghettos of East coast cities, CA, or Southern US when I lived there. There are more PhDs in NM than in any other state and the scientific community could give MIT, Princeton Harvard and other prestigious organizations of higher learning a run for their monies. NM food is unchallenged and it’s scenic beauty + weather is unbeatable.

    Oh! Wow! I just looked at your channel and realized _you_ are probably Canadian. (…Although, you don’t seem to _speak_ Canadian. I think you said “out” and that sounded ‘American’. Also, you said “Li-berry” a couple of times - - that’s very ‘American’.) But, if you are Canadian, that explains why you were traveling _alone_. (…somebody has to stay in Canada to turn out the lights - - shrug).

    • @NestofWeasels

    • @NestofWeasels
      @NestofWeasels 7 месяцев назад

      I guess I should have explained: When I was young - - back before the civil war, I quickly realized, when I first lived in Europe, that when you saw a ‘North American’ person walking around alone - - they were Canadian. You could just casually sidle up to them and whisper, “…you’re Canadian aren’t you?” I’ve even done this in the lower 48. …It freaks them out. I always travelled alone or hooked up with a European (…preferably the prettiest French girl I could find). American-Americans always traveled in small armies, in those days. I didn’t want to find myself in one of those bubbles.

    Two months ago I rented a room in a Motel in Stanley, TX. The room was DISGUSTING: none of the beds were made, the refrig was FILTHY with things in it, the room was dirty, the trash had not been dumped. Worst of all, no reflection on the motel staff for this one, a huge turd in the toilet. (Who uses the toilet without flushing).

    I forgot to mention, my son found $100 in a magic trick “toy”…a real $100 bill. My son was like 7 at the time too:) he asked his dad if he can buy it for him and when they got to the car, my son took it out and told his dad he had $100 bill. Well, his dad finally looked at it, took it to a bank to confirm, and yes it was legit😅

    Why did you book that motel room

    • @TravelWithTats
      @TravelWithTats  Год назад

      You ask a good question.
      A few days before I was supposed to leave, I was getting a really bad feeling about the Airbnb I originally booked. I did some digging and found some some disturbing stuff. I canceled that Airbnb immediately, and with 2 days to the fiesta there was nothing but that motel was available (that was under $300).

    • @NestofWeasels
      @NestofWeasels 9 месяцев назад

      It’s a miracle that you even got the motel at the last minute. I wouldn’t have cancelled the Airbnb at the last minute - - even if I read an allegation that there were spy cameras in the bathroom. I haven’t been in too many road-hotels (…I have a OUTFITTER truck camper). But I have never stayed in a road motel where I didn’t have to hold my nose and stomp on bugs. I’ve always found the CAMPANILE chain in France to be pretty nice. Their property restaurants are well liked, too.
      I’m going to have to stay at a bunch of road motels when I move myself across country back to Rio Rancho - - because I can’t talk my French lover into following me in the pickup truck and camper behind the U-Haul truck. Geeze! …Note to self: Take plenty of RAID!
