Thank you Robert Godfrey. Always enjoy your biblical insights. And God's special blessing. Love your humour as well, especially when your audience misses it.... makes me feel special.
Through your actions. Show people Christ in you. Do not be ashamed to speak about the things of God in front of the person or anyone. Be ready to answer questions or guide the questioner to someone who can answer their questions. Ask God to open a door and the Spirit will move. Remember, you may only be able to place a pebble in the persons shoe. The next believer the person meets may place one as well, maybe larger. In God's time the person will see the light.
But to say Reformed is the ONLY biblical way of thinking seems a little arrogant. I do believe in many things from Reformed theology but not all. That doesnt been Im not biblical. I do love Dr Godfrey and esp like listening to his history sermons. Sabbath... some work MUST be dont everyday... cooking, milking, gathering eggs, doctors, nurses, etc. My husband is on call some Sundays so he’ll have to work. Is the good doctor being too strict?
He clearly said that there are Christians that certainly need to do works of mercy (doctors, nurses, police officers, those who serve the homeless etc.) and works of necessity (farmers that have animals that need feeding and milking etc.). His point was that Christians ought to make the Lord's day a priority and that we should endeavor to worship and rest on it and not be complacent whenever possible. If there is anything too strict, it is God's Word, and not Dr. Godfrey I think. I know commercial dairy farmers that milk their cows and dump the milk they collect on Sundays so that they do not make money on their labors on the Lord's Day. The cows need to be fed and milked but they don't need to sell that milk. If your husband is on call (a doctor?) that sounds like a work of mercy and is understandable and I don't think Dr. Godfrey was speaking about him.
I wondered about this myself. I have started researching this a bit. It seems Jesus and the Apostles always kept the Sabbath. Even after Jesus death and resurrection the Apostles seem to have kept the Sabbath and the " Lords Day". See Acts. However, Jesus did dispute with the Pharisees about what actions were legal to do on the Sabbath. It is an interesting subject. Jesus and the Apostles recognized Saturday as Sabbath, because of course, tradition says Saturday is the 7th day of the week. There are many questions that can stem from the statements made by Dr. Godfrey. Is Sunday truly the Sabbath? If it is, why do we not observe Sunday in the manner Jews observe Saturday Sabbath, from just before sunset Saturday to an hour after sundown Sunday? His statement raises many questions I would like to ask him. I believe I know what he was getting at. I actually felt a bit of conviction after hearing his statement. I have not been keeping the day of worship God has given us in the manner I should or could. It has spurred me to examine my practices, but I think the statement could be taken to far and push some into legalism. The very legalism Jesus argued with the Pharisees about.
@@lyssa1556 The question I would raise is, what about those who work in a vocation that requires them to work on Sunday? I used to work offshore, I had no choice but to work Sunday. It was that or lose my job. I agree with your interpretation of what Dr. Godfrey was saying, I think we have let our day of worship become like any other day and that is the central problem, but Dr. Dr. Godfrey's answer does raise many other questions.
@@jasonbaker7284 I agree. I think that it can be a fine line between the Lord's Day and legalism. I think the thing I've heard it said is that it is the day of rest as God modeled for us in creation. On the 7th day God rested (though the Almighty God has no need of rest it was a model for how He wanted us to spend our 7th day). Our Sabbath is Sunday because it is the day of Christ's resurrection. On the Lord's day, we ought to treat it as a day of rest, set apart to worship our Lord. It ought not to be like every other day (6 days we labor and do all our work...errands, employment, running around, regular activities,) but the 7th day is a sabath to the Lord. On that day we worship Him and rest from the usual busyness of all the other days so that it is set apart. I don't think we need to be so legalistic that we can't walk more that half a mile or peel potatoes or wash dishes from a meal, but I know my family does take the admonition to not work or make others work seriously. I don't do my shopping or go to the movies on Sunday because then by my leisure activities I am causing someone else to work that is not a work of mercy or necessity. Does that make sense?
@@lyssa1556 Absolutely it does. I agree with you completely. As I said in my reply to the OP, it is a very interesting subject, worthy of study and consideration. I feel like we could have a half hour of Q&A with Dr. Godfrey on this subject alone! May the God richly bless you sister!

Love Bob’s sense of humour💜
I wish we get his book on Revelation soon...
What’s the difference between Lutheran and Reformed on baptismal regeneration? This is for Robert Godfrey to answer. Thanks.
Lutherans believe in baptismal regeneration. The reformed view is that baptismal regeneration is not biblical.

Islam is religion. Christianity is a relationship. John 14:6. Jesus is the only way.
