I must have spent most of my early twenties slowing down the 12 inch version of this record trying to work out how the solos were done. Of course it put it in a lower key but that's all we could do then. A great lesson and thanks for uploading Dave! You will have your work cut out with the outro. Good luck!
nicedog1 Cheers Mike. I used to do the same thing, had a record player with a 16rpm setting. It would slow an album down to half speed but the pitch would drop an octave. A lot easier these days with programs like Transcribe or Riffstation. Yes, the outro is going take a fair amount of work to get down!
I can't be sure but I think there is some tapping involved at some point. It is so incredibly fast in places too. I wait with baited breath to see how you get on. I don't know if anybody else has even attempted it.
Excellent instruction and format ... Many thanks for taking the time to do this. I gave up on this solo sometime in 1984 I think, and now it's under my fingers (at 80 bpm and counting) :D I'm bouncing!
superb lesson, many thanks. if one wants to learn a signature solo of Luke this is the one because it is short and effective. contains typical fast and wide bends, double stop and anything Luke would do 😃👍
I should have known this was Lukather... but I didn't. One of my favorite guitar solos ever. Nice lesson.
Glad you liked it.

The guitar solo in Easy Lover by Phil Collins and Philip Bailey was totally shreddin'. Just thought I'd mention it.
Well done that man! My next solo to learn just as soon as I finish 'Physical'
100% spot on Dave.
