2020 Daiwa Saltiga | Gear Knocking Fix

This method It's work for most Daiwa heavy duty spinning reel like 2020 Saltiga/Certate SW 8000-20000 or old model which exact the same gear system designed. (mean gear attach crankshaft with 6 screws). You may need monocoque opener tool to access & Loctite thread locker adhesive (non-permanent type) apply at the 6 screws thread, to prevent loose again. The screw loose due to apply pressure tighten or untighten the handle for on & off fishing trip, or chug big popper or handling big fish vibration or shock cause.

Thanks for this. I bought a brand new Shimano Twinpower SW 8000 and out of the box, it had a similar knock.
Have you tried this on a Twin power reel by any chance ? Interesting to know if the main crown wheel has a screw in configuration as the Certate does.

@matthewlee1383 check and confirm your Twinpower SW8000 handle is joint type or solid piece, if joint type likely have pin play cause us might think gear knocking, because unlike solid piece handle.

It is very dangerous to remove the gear this way.
Since there is no anti-reverse switch, it can get stuck at the junction with the pinion. This happened to me on a Certate LT and I had to remove the rotor to turn off anti-reverse and free the gears. Or you need something to securely fix the rotor from rotating.
By the way, such a connection with screws is very convenient and you can always eliminate the backlash.
In smaller sizes, for example 4000 and below, the gear is fixed with a pressed pin, which in the same case will require complex repairs or replacement of the gear.

interesting, my certate 10000 is tight but antireverse slip about 2mm

Have to 1st check, could be oil or grease contaminate a bit much between antireverse and roller contact surface cause little backplay slip ( rub off and try again) good luck.

Hi @chensam4853 open a monocoque side cover to fix your gear, it will not affect the magseal. Magseal itself already inside the magseal bearing in monocoque cover section. (Except Airbail Line Roller dont touch)

Can buy it at online shops example: ebay, amazon, aliexpress, shopee, hedgehogstudio.co.jp, or local fishing tackle shop can ask. make sure chat them for your reel size.

Does the certate 19 have the same screws?

For 19 Certate LT5000 and SW LT6000 it's yes same design, gear and shaft with 6 screw design. For LT4000 size model and below are not same.

@eliasnordin8192 no screw. I have 18 daiwa exist LT3000XH similar issue handle play til rotor feel knock, but i fixed by add 1 thin piece washer from SLP work knob spare washer into bottom of pinion gear. Do your rotor have knock play too?
