Layton was my favorite wrestling announcer. He took no b.s., even from the Sheik An expert in his wrestling knowledge. Plus an excellent professional wrestler, in his own career.
As a kid the Sheik scared the crap out of me . He actually chased my uncle Paul at the Cincinnati Gardens lol the greatest villain of all time and should be in his own section in the Hall of Fame
To this day, the theme song - “A Banda” by Herb Alpert, is one of my favorite songs because it brings back such great memories of watching Big Time Wrestling. I’d watch it on a little black and white tv in our spare bedroom because no one else in my family wanted to watch wrestling. Bobo and the Sheik were the best
I remember whe Big Time Wrestling was in Ontario run by a wrestler named Dave The Wildman he had The Shiek go against Haystack Caughoun Phill Watson Jr and others and The Wrestling bear ,Dave would visit a friend in our town and I would go see the bear and some of the wrestlers in my younger years ,it was great fun, thanks for the video and memories.
The Sheik was a cultural antagonist. A true G.O.A.T. Good against Evil. Enjoyed the brutal mayhem . How can you even compare today's wrestling to old school wrestling.
@@Xontar02I think this may be from their final Cobo showdown. TV aired in ~ DEC 1975, show was in early Jan. 01.05.1976 Big Time Wrestling National Wrestling Alliance The Sheik defeats Bobo Brazil by DQ BTW - Event @ Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan, USA
I think this might be from Dec 1971 rather than '75. This is based on the Wikipedia page for the Detroit version of the United States Championship title, which indicates that Bobo Brazil held the belt in December 1971, having won it from The Sheik on July 29, 1971. Bobo would eventually lose the belt temporarily to Pampiro Firpo on August 12, 1972. This could also be from Dec 1972, since Bobo had the title again from December 23 to 30, 1972, having won it back from Pampiro Firpo. The Sheik won it from Bobo on December 30, 1972. Either way it's definitely not Dec 1975, since in December 1975 Mark Lewin held the title, having won it from Bulldog Bob Kent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NWA_United_States_Heavyweight_Championship_(Detroit_version)
Me and my brothers loved Big Time Wrestling back in the day!!! BoBo Brasil was my favorite for sure!!
Such fond memories of Big Time Wrestling. A rite of passage during my pre to early teen years
“The Princess” shown in early GREAT video here is Shieks long time wife. She inducted Shiek into wwe hof in 2007.
What I would pay to own the archives. The theme music. The action. Best wrestling show ever, the show that sold the magazines.

The Gardens was a great venue for wrestling, I saw many JCP & WWF events there.

I think this is from December of 1972, not 1975.
I agree that this seems like 1972 looking at the title history.

Who is announcing Shiek/Guru match, particularly the one with the accent?
Lord Athol Layton is the announcer. Layton was also a wrestler.
The one and only Lord Athol Layton.
