Thanks Rick, it's my first 4x5 so tbh I don't have much to compare it to but I can only imagine there are much better systems out there as it is rather flimsy. Looking at getting a medium format camera soon something a little more user friendly.
Not an expert here, but I think missing the focus could have been caused by misalignment of your intrepid camera´s ground glass and the film plane. See, the critical point of focusing (assuming you did the focus with a loupe and the camera didn´t move and I could see in your video) is making sure where you ground glass is, would also me exactly where the film will be when you insert the holder. With all due respect, I think Intrepid being made by ply wood the tolerances could lead to cause this misalignment leading the final image to be out of focus. If you observe the first picture, the focus is on the "honda" badge, meaning it is "forwarded" on the image; meaning your film plane is slightly too far from the lens. I don´t know if I am explaining myself. OR maybe you simply missed the focus. Make a focus test ;)
What was the lens/image taking aperture? Where there any camera movements used to aid in what is in focus/what is not in focus? What lens and lens focal length was used? How was this scene light metered, what was the lighting used? If the view camera was applied without camera movements, insufficient lighting, questionable light metering and all those photographic techniques commonly used for digital or roll film images, they are not gonna work foe view camera images. View camera like this Intrepid lacks the precision, stability and adjustability for serious studio work. Historically, studio images like this was made using a very different camera (sinar monorail) /lighting (several thousand watt/second of flash power to get f22 or smaller and Large light modifiers) than what appeared in this video.
@@christopherpohl809 OK, thank you. He was a community theater actor that I photographed many times when I lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA back in the mid-70s. I just wondered because the family name "Pohl" is not that common here in the USA. He passed away in 2015. www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/observer-reporter/name/jude-pohl-obituary?pid=175819464
Beautiful stuff Christopher. Just discovered your channel, what a treat!
Thank you for your kind words Christos. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll be posting more films in the near future.
@@christopherpohl809 Subscribing to your journey man! Best of luck!
Great lighting setup! Little issues with build tolerances keep me hesitant to pick one up. Cool video!

Why did you use 4x5? Is there some reason you didn't use a digital full frame that produces the same quality?

Thanks Dong Xu, I'll definitely do a focus test in the future and spend more time with the movements the camera has to offer. Thanks for the advice. 🤙

Are you any relation to Jude Pohl?
Hi Terry, I am not related to Jude Pohl as far as I know.
