This is the most vulnerable we’ve seen from both Joel and Ellie yet. We know watching from Joel the desperation to close himself off to preserve whatever humanity he doesn’t want to lose yet and him breaking down in front of Tommy is indicative of how much he’s barely keeping it together, how this dam he built up for himself is breaking apart the more he gets closer to his new surrogate daughter.
Ellie, on the other hand, is a whole different kettle of fish. This is where her abandonment issues begin to boil over the more she loses her innocence; between being orphaned by her parents, being pawned off by Marlene, losing Riley, Tess, Henry and Sam, now she has to watch her father figure pawn her off and abandon her too? This girl can’t catch a damn break; it breaks my heart when she repeatedly tells him “Don’t leave me alone”.
It hurts even more taking their trauma out on each other.

12:45 Ellies speech kills me every time. One of my favorite scenes in the game. Bella is doing amazing.
As skeptical as I was about the cast, she absolutely nailed it. She plays my favorite character in computer games great.

Joel is not manipulative. If anything tommy owes Joel. Tommy was the one always getting into trouble in jail. And Joel was always bailing him out. Then tommy just ghosted his brother because he found a safe place. If anything Tommy is and has been selfish. This whole story began on Joel needing to go find he’s brother because Tommy became selfish and didn’t at least say hey I’m okay and alive which is bullshit!!’ To say the least.
