  • Drop, Drop, Slow Tears • Music by Orlando Gibbons • Performed by The Gesualdo Six • Recorded at St George’s Bloomsbury, London
    - - -
    Words by Phineas Fletcher (1582-1650)
    Drop, drop, slow tears,
    And bathe those beauteous feet
    Which brought from Heaven
    The news and Prince of Peace.
    Cease not, wet eyes,
    His mercy to entreat;
    To cry for vengeance
    Sin doth never cease.
    In your deep floods
    Drown all my faults and fears;
    Nor let His eye
    See sin, but through my tears.

    As a memoriam to her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II this could not be surpassed.

    Just stumbled upon these guys , they are fantastic , and moving . For some reason I assumed this was an English church , and I assumed they were English and this was an English hymn . By the comments , I think I was right . But , I’m not sure . I have watched a couple of videos and they seem to sing in lots of different churches in different countries and the acoustics are always so cool !!

    Wonderful. I have sung this too. Sometimes I sang with counter tenors which is lovely to do (for me) as long as the sopranos have a similar tone .

      There are Six, but in this particular piece, four are featured.
