  • Explore the transformative power of art with a detailed review of two indispensable art books.
    Both of these art books are ones I return to time and again and adore, however, I do not normally recommend Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain for most of my students as it is more of a serious text book for art students. The far more practical volume is the Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Workbook which is full of practical exercises and daily drawing prompts for artists. I give a complete cover to cover flip through of the workbook in this video and talk about why I think it’s such a great book for anyone who wants to learn to draw better.
    On my channel I hope you will find inspiration for your own drawing and painting practice. I share my process and what I have learned about materials in my life as a teaching artist. I hope you can paint with me and experiment with materials, color, tools and process as you find inspiration on your creative journey.

    This book was used by my teacher in high school art class as her main curriculum. I actually went through this book several times checking it out of the local library in before I ever got to high school and it really helped me and a lot of others but learning it from any book or platform is always a good thing .

      I'm so glad you like the stencils. I am not sure which Short you mean because I make a few at a time and schedule them out. If you put the comment on the one you mean, I'll see it and I can tell you. I hope you are making art.

    tnx for this video. I, too, have this book but not the workbook.
    If one was going to break this down to a 5day exercise how would that be done?

      @@djC653 I’m not sure what you’re asking but I use the faces and vases, blind contour studies like the hand drawings as warm ups 10 minutes before drawing or painting class. The other projects can be done as longer studies over a period of time. You can always return to them and/ or use them as warm ups before drawing sessions for as long as you want to even after you have gone through the entire book. Warming up and practicing drawing is something you just do as an artist forever.

    I think you might have convinced me to buying the workbook over the textbook :) Thanks for the video!

    If every exercise was done every day, how long would it take to get through the book and workbook?

    • @Bellamarcella1212
      @Bellamarcella1212  5 месяцев назад

      The original course was designed as a 5 day intensive; 5 days, 7 hours per day. You can take as long as you would like to go through it at your own pace. But this sound like a riddle, hmm if we did them all in one day - one day right?
      I use the book as a tool and teach using the handbook. I have always been able to draw but love the way she teaches negative space in such an easy to understand way.
