Between the government/supermarkets/ Europe, I really don’t know how farmers can survive, buy British and keep sisters in wellies smiling. ❤

You’re doing well to have got away for so long without a winter closed period . In Southern Ireland we’ve had to have 16 week slurry storage since 2008. No earth banked lagoons allowed

It is worrying for a lot of farmers because the supermarkets are paying the farmers so little they can't afford to make such big investment, a lot of farmers are selling up because they can't afford the regulations the government are bringing in.

In Northern Ireland, that lagoon must have a liner installed and you will soon have to cover it to stop ammonia escaping. Surprised at the difference in regulations between different parts of the UK.

For such a small uk nation, there is a massive variation in slurry rules.....Northern Ireland being the tightest rules of all

Which proves the Northern Ireland farmers are not on a level playing field compared with the rest of GB. Now the planners in NI won’t even pass slurry tanks, which again is disadvantaged NI farming .

@@JohnMcKay-p1f Exactly. Quite funny how many farmers in England are now moving into slatted tanks for their new builds.

Well done Richard, fantastic video diary of construction
Certainly looks to be a deep pit, should hold plenty of slurry
Digger driver has done a 1st class job for you
I take it, the slurry will need double handling, tanking from farm to pit, from pit to field, but unavoidable with distance
Be careful Dawn wild swimming in quarries lol
    Take care all

Saw a similar lagoon in a corner of a field in Cumbria the other day, presume it must be filled with tankers because there where no buildings close by

All this storage just means more slurry going out in a shorter time frame, especially with umbilical spreading. It hasn't work for Ireland, so their solutions is to just build more tanks, and lengthen by weeks the time you're not allowed spread regardless of weather conditions.

slurry is becoming a big problem on many larger scale dairy farms......a lot of time / money /machinery involved. i got a neighbour who built a slurry store next to a river back in the late 70's, needless to say they have now got the environment agency on there back so they talked of building a new earth bank store up on top the hill and then tankering it or pumping it up there from there farm which is beside the river but the Dartmoor National Park refused there planning aplication but the national park would allow them to build a new store on the existing site which is next to the river........but the environment agency won't allow that because it's less than 12 metres from the river........not much joined up thinking going on there between the national park and the environment agency

Over here there are some excavator drivers on union day rate, painful to watch I call them chicken scratchers. I have had excavators on my property and I always ensure the driver will operate efficiently. Credit to the ones I have had, they have been terrific.
