Wonderful, informative video on one of the giants of American literature, by the dean of detective fiction collecting. Keep ‘em coming, as they say. Nice to see the inner sanctum, as well; reminds me of the office at the top of the circular staircase on West 56 Street, where I learned all I know about book collecting from the master himself.
In addition to the factors listed by Otto, the Viking First Editions usually include a page listing books previously published by Rex Stout. The book club editions omit this page. Often helpful when no DJ is present.
I've decided, quite randomly, to choose The League of Frightened Men as my first foray into the world of Wolfe. Have I chosen well? Also- how is Robert Goldsborough?
I just finished a collection of parodies and pastiches edited by Josh Pachter, _The Misadventures of Nero Wolfe_, which includes a short NW story by Robert Goldsborough, if you'd care to sample RG that way.
Wonderful video!! Thank you so much for doing these! Also, have you considered filming these by framing in 'Landscape' instead of 'Portrait'? It would give us a better view of all the goodies you have. Regardless, keep up the good work and look forward to more!
They are reposts from Instagram Live videos, which make more sense in portrait. Since the majority of viewers seem to tune in there, we're reluctant to reformat for the sake of RUclips. But thanks for the suggestion!
typically it is clipped just to hide the fact that it's a book club. The giveaway in the example Otto showed, was the fact that the price corner was not clipped, but was blank. Sometimes the collector doesn't want people to know it's a book club, but sometimes an unscrupulous dealer (Never Otto!) is hoping for a naive collector to come along

Outstanding video! Keep these coming. Also, consider giving us a tour of your wonderfully cluttered office. Excellent...
Super, enjoying listening

Good book. As for. Goldsborough, not bad. First, read all the Wolfe books.

19:54 you can also tell it's a BOMC when there is no price on the DJ flap
Why is “Book Club Edition” usually clipped ?

What a marvelous job. Stout was indeed “the American Conan Doyle” as he was once called. Thank you.
i would love to work for you otto
Bit too much heavy breathing from the photographer. It detracts from the film.
