Only Veronica was fighting, cause she liked the idea of marriage.
Why? Because he was a Casanova? But Veronica was also like this. She was also very much into this hookup culture. But at least Gautam was clear from his end .Veronica is the one who made it complicated. And Gautam changed himself when he really fell in love. Then how he is not worth it and Veronica is?

The guys she sleeps around with, at least want her for the night. She feels wanted, at least for the night.
But deep inside she yearns for the affection she never had. That's why she says, I want what Meera has with Gautam's mom.
Veronica is a kind person, perhaps stupid too. She helped a random girl crying in a grocery store washroom, brought her home, took no rent, no rules. Just a girl she felt safe with. She needed a friend.
Veronica was emotionally intelligent enough to step aside when she saw Gautam didn't want her.
While Gautam is sleeping around just for pleasure. He has a loving mom, caring and friendly uncle. His life isn't empty. Guy like Gautam don't change. Not for any Meera. Psychologically speaking, Gautam is a psychopath (according to psychology textbook definition). He's consistently using others for his pleasure (Veronica isn't a psychopath. She isn't using other, instead offering herself to be used, so that she could get some sense of affection and belonging).
Even when Meera says he should stay away from her, he couldn't take a no and started throwing tantrums and hitting trash cans on road (the moment when reactors in this video said Red flag).
Meera fell for him because she was lonely. Never knew real appreciation and attention from a man.
Veronica is the hero of the movie.

After Veronica 's accident when Gautam was taking care of Veronica she realised that he was not the same guy anymore which Veronica liked. Now Gautam is no fun, he is depressed and serious and can truly be happy with Meera. That was some major character development of Gautam from a total flirt to actually fall in love. You guys completely missed that point.🙄🙄

@PriyaK-cu1fz umm.. Gautam was a software engineer living in Uk.. He's anything but Chapri lol. Yeah he was a Playboy in the beginning but he changed the moment he developed feelings for Meera. He stopped flirting others from the very next day, didn't stop caring for her, even though she was ignoring him. Went back India to ask her hand. What else you need him to show, that he did changed.

This movie frustrated me thoroughly. While people in this comment section defending gautam but i don't agree with it. Veronica had abandonment issues. It is clear throughout the movie. Gautam had fuckboy issues. And what he "fell" For meera because she was homely. So ultimately its like a woman's sole purpose is to be sanskari and fix her husband's crap. Ugghhh

First Veronica didn't want to marry Gautam. She just loved motherly feeling that she felt from Mrs.Kapoor. I don't get understand why Meera fell for Gautam. I'm not judging Gautam but their ideals don't match and I don't think Gautam can be a good match for Meera. This movie could have been about friendship but in the end they spoiled it.

Just rewatched this with you guys after years. This movie reinvented Deepika’s career, the whole thing rested on her shoulders. And honestly, she was the only likable character for me personally. I am fuming all over again at these other two. 😆

We are more supportive towards veronica and not Gautam is just because we saw the backstory of veronica..she also just changed in one day and also not for Gautam she just changed because she saw a glimpse of a stable life, loving parents and thought wow this feels nice ...then the movie mostly follow veronica and shows us how hurt she is..
But veronica and him were just friends with benefits. So no guys dont blame gautam for catching feelings for someone else guys

The year was 2012, I just got a touch screen phone. My first phone. It was my gateway to this giant world of internet and the movies. I wanted to watch all the movies that I had missed and Cocktail was the first one that I have downloaded. I still remember someone telling me the url of this 360p movie website, and how to download from it. Took me 1 night and 2 days to download the movie but the wait was worth it. Watching this, it's bringing back the memories. Memories from an era of 2.4" touchscreen phones and 2G connectivity. Simpler times.
You could watch “Dil chahta hai” for a fun, youthful movie with a bit of Dimple kapadia in it.

One of Saif Ali Khan's entertaining movie.
I don't get the hate for Gautam's character.
Veronica and Gautam both agreed to a non-committal friends with benifit situationship. After realising his genuine feeling for Meera, he promptly confessed to Veronica.If Gautam is to blamed for developing feelings for Meera, same blame should be put upon Meera as well for falling for her bestfriend's boyfriend.
Even after all this, he was there for Veronica after the accident as a true friend.
I think Veronica and Gautam had better character arcs in the story.

I dont think veronica actually loved him. She was in love with the whole idea of happy caring family after his mom's visit. They made it clear from start it is friends with benefit kind of relationship but veronica started expecting things. I know dude has weird and stupid personality but idk why we should hate him. We cant say he cheated on her in this situation. He even made veronica very clear when he developed feelings for meera, he told her straight forwardly.

Just to clarify, Meera was living with Kunal so she can stop Gautam from following him. In the meantime she was staying with Kunal, he started developing feelings for her. She noticed this, and left from there as well since she realised that if she's ever going to have this type pf life, it could only be with Gautam.
