Same. Bro is a, (very), poor man's version of Baker. Even though he played in the Big 10, (11,12, 13....etc), if his "talent," is his "moxi/ability to find a way to win," but not any specific, tangible traits, a team would have to be delusional to pick him high.
That's, (more or less), why he disappeared in the 2nd half against Maryland and Penn State. It's impossible to "overachieve," and go against the grain 100% of the time, ESPECIALLY with the talent and the grueling amount of games, in the NFL.
JJ seems like a great kid, no matter his path I think he’ll be good for any locker room. I just don’t see the hype around him. He was very hidden with a great o line and run game his entire career. He had some clutch plays but I’ve never seen him carry the team on his back for an entire game, not even close

Penix was awful in the championship game and still had significantly more passing yards than McCarthy. Michigan's stout defense and run game carried them all season. McCarthy will not be great in the NFL unless he's in a similar situation at Michigan where he was not asked to do too much.

Mad Dog is absolutely right. JJ is this years draft Mitchell Trubisky and Zach Wilson. He literally wasn't praised as a top 3 QB till like a month ago. This out of nowhere hype is for clicks and ratings.

He’s a 2nd round borderline 3rd round talent. Kirk cousins is probably his max ceiling and he can’t even do anything in the playoffs.

If Kirk is his ceiling then nobody with a couple of brain cells to rub together would take him with a top 5 pick if you know that he has zero chance of being a really good qb and has such a limited ceiling opposed to guys like Caleb, Penix and Maye who have far more upside and arm talent.

Zach Wilson was a very good prospect out of BYU. I do agree they have a ton of similarities as prospects which is a compliment, not an insult to JJ as it would be hard for that good of a prospect to bust like that twice.

What separates 1st round talent to all the other rounds is projecting where these prospects end up with. Overall body of work, easy conference schedule, consistent upward trajection of metrics, accomplishments, did they lift their college team into the playoffs. All these things must be answered. JJ McCarthy to me is a 2nd-3rd round talent. Easy to get caught up if you're playing the position of QB and you're not the sole reason the team is winning. Mad Dog has a point here.

Fun fact: As a sophomore in HS JJ McCarthy broke his thumb on his throwing hand before the State Championship game. Didn’t tell anyone. Passed for over 300 yards, 3 td, and won the Ship. Didn’t pound his chest on how tough he was. Simply played with a broken thumb on his throwing hand and “did his job.”
It’s the same BS every year, they over hype these average QB’s because some play on extremely talented teams or play poor competition and the QB position is overvalued. The NFL will never have 32 elite QB’s, it’s statistically impossible. Marvin Harrison proved himself every year of playing in college. His production & talent say’s he is at least top 5.

McCarthy is this year's Mac Jones. Not EVERY QB can be top 10. If Caleb and Jaden are "cant miss," and Burrow, Mahomes, Stroud, Allen and Jackson, and 5 more are top, there isnt much room for more "top QBs"... ESPN acts like Justin Fields is already elite and McCarthy is at least Kirk Cousins. McCarthy is a second round pick. For the value, I'd much rather take Pennix who will possibly around in the middle of the 2nd round.
I can see why Mad Dog is sucessful in the US. Talks very load, but mainly just bluster and hot takes, rather than much knowledge/insight.

JJ isn't as good of a thrower of the football as Kirk Cousins. These QBs on great teams like Jayden and JJ who still don't look impressive should raise flags. Drake Maye was great on a terrible team and so was Caleb.

McCarthy is someone that isn’t top 5 talent, but he will go top 5. I know this is based on what the guy would do as a GM, but a team will trade up most likely to get McCarthy. The QB is valuable, and with the Vikings trading for another 1st round pick, it will probably be them. He’s younger than Nix and Penix by a lot which is the main reason why he will be picked before them.
