You really need one of the three on the midfield to be more defensive minded. Teams would often place someone with a high workrate running like headless chickens in that role, Busquets read the game perfectly without running as much which is also a reason people came to the conclusion he never did anything, he just read and cut passing lanes or used his physique on the players to win the ball, on the ball he was technical enough to get out of any situation or make the right pass.
