Being that learn mostly from RUclips, a bit more written information would be very helpful like how many rows to macrame before pulling out strands of cord to narrow the bottom of the basket, or if one can alter the size of the cord to 4 mm or the number of cords that one cuts at the start from 32 to 33, 34, etc.

Glad you liked it. To make the basket 2 times bigger, take 2 times more threads and length. Only such a bottom will not work. It will be necessary to make circular double half hitch knots and reduce the threads with each circle.
This is a beginner question... can you use wool to do this? Or does it have to be string?
It is difficult to weave on woolen threads, they are shaggy. And they are usually too thin.

I usually use 3mm 3-strand cotton thread for macrame.

Все нити имеют разную плотность, твердые нити хуже сминаются и поэтому их расход больше. Еще производители часто указывают диаметр меньше, чем есть на самом деле. Я обычно указываю длину с запасом, чтобы всем хватило
