The reason why we are not improving or advancing in a community is because we keep pointing fingers at each other, criticizing each other’s ways of life. The ones that do not engage in these types of conversations are the ones that are actually doing their part in the world and are going to help lift the congo. It sounded like some of them were trying to diminish the whole George Ffloyd situation which resulted in to Black Lives Matter which to me was a bit uncalled for and unfair because both movements matter. Congolese lives matter just as much as Black Lives Matter because we live both experiences. It doesn’t matter that he was American. It matters because he was a fellow black who’s life was taken from him due to the injustices of the justice system in America towards our people which is something that needs to be spoken about and called out upon. This is just as important as the continuous slaughtering of our fellow Congolese people and the never ending genocide. Both movements are just as important as eachother and trying to sort of....make one more or less important is a bit mad to me. I live both experiences to the fullest. Black and Congolese so I’m always going to march , share information and talk about these two movements without putting more value on one over the other or try to dismiss one movement because of the larger recognition over the other. It’s unfair to do so in my opinion.

To march is also to actively participate. Social media activism is not enough Randy unfortunately, We have to truly demand change. The West has a hand in the Congo, we should use the same PR as the BLM movement to bring awareness to what is going on in the Congo. Friends of the Congo, in the US, does a great job at that. A structure Awareness system (as not to say PR) is also very important.

1st, Trésor is very right: Randy est très mal informé.
As usual, I think Amba actually said it best even though she wasn't on the panel today. I really wish that you guys had used "Congo is bleeding" because that's the movement that is actually gaining momentum and also, it does not compare itself to BLM which is completely different. This conversation was very interesting but the framing of it made it seem like the 2 movements are mutually exclusive which is just not true.
Beyond that, people like Randy seating there talking about letting go of marches because it's performative and then saying that his contribution is speaking lingala and French on his instagram 🙄😂😂😂
Lastly, I think part of the problem is that people think like Ya Frank and Randy where they only want to support the organizations that are having "a global impact" or a large following when It's those small community organizations that become the ones that have a global impact. Black Lives Matter did not start with a global following

Knowing what's happening is half the battle. You need money! You need people on the ground, you need support, you need administrators, safe houses.

Lesson to learn everyone and anyone reading this. I say this “not a person or a nation will care about another person or nation who does not show self care for it self”. The way we Congolese have allowed ourselves to live in a very poor state our country is in, the rest of the world looks at us and pays no tension. Western countries have a hand on most of African countries so please let us not use this as excuse or reason why we cannot grow as people. Other Africans are doing it so why can’t we. It’s all about our mentality. We have to want/desire the change.

The panellists need to listen and take in constructive criticism and allow others to express themselves and not try so hard to prove a point. Other than that, it was a great conversation to have. May we as a people learn to embrace who we are because “the value of identity of course is that so often with it comes purpose”.

These lungs don't wanna read no more therefore we cannot really enlighten our existence to improve these statistics
I would often ask myself if certain Congolese that attended the March fully understood their reasoning for being at the march
The reason why I say this is because in watching videos of interviews conducted when some where asked why they were marching today the answer some gave indicated that they were just sheep seeking a instagramable glory .
People didn’t really come with a solid well structured answers ,such as I am protesting today because it’s been 16-18 years that Kabila had a been in power and during this time 15 billion dollars is lost very year due to anti corruption
Since he has been president six out seven people in the country lives on less than $1.25 a day
More than 20 million killing in the Goma, Béni etc etc .
Kabila has managed to violate xyz article Kabila has tampered with electoral votes etc etc
Majority of their answers were always Kabila maman na yo , Kabila Rwandan All kinds of insult
I always wonder now if a foreigner watch this and asked what are they saying what will we respond ? If a foreigner was wanting to help how can they help with very little factual information is being presented to them so they can have a better understanding of the situation so they can lend a hand
Dyumnd is very honest and I applaud her for it
Too many people now a days are going to protest just for Instagramable pictures . Very little people understand the history the back stories behind the moment . People just want to be cool on social media , I know Congolese people who attended Black Lives Matter protest in the UK who just think it was dope how black people were gathered and how there were police everywhere nothing more than that I think we love being meme and jumping on things we don’t fully understand .

I feel like this was a necessary conversation, but some points got lost in translation. Black Lives Matter is for Everyone with all shades of black skin. It will obviously be harder to get Congolese matters to go mainstream because most of the problems that Congo faces now are caused by our own leaders and people. Where BLM is about the oppression of Black people from the system of racism by white people. I am a fellow Congolese and very proud of my nationality!! I just feel like the work needs to start from our own people!

We don't say that they should talk about congo but people are dying. It's a serious topic it's not about sharing things about Congo for no reason. As a Congolese if you have a little bit of humanity and because it concern you it will be great to post something about Congo to make things change. In France or America people are not dying like Congolese people for more than 10 years. It's like saying if you're black you should support BLM.
