    Hey Guys, Atomos have released the AtomOS 10.71 firmware update that brings some new features to X cast. Here's a short video run through: ruclips.net/video/9JDOWyKNFOE/видео.html

      Not sure you should do this. I have just bought the Atomx Cast, only to find (what was already obvious from this video) that I cannot mix audio from different sources. Something that even the most basic BM ATEM can do, with no problem, even with the ability to control the gain on each audio. I find this to be the stupidest oversight on behalf of Atomos. I'm thinking about returning the Atomx Cast, because of this. It's a deal-breaker for me, since I would be forced to buy/lug around an audio mixer, just to be able to film two speakers, each with his own mic, plugged into two different cameras. AFW won't help, since I am not always switched on the respective camera, from which I want the audio. There are also more minuses for the AtomX, like having to load the overlays beforehand on the ssd (only 8 of them), and not allowing a system to load them "on the run" like with any BM ATEM, through their ATEM Software.

    Does it record the 4 signals as separate files, as in the input of the 4 cameras in diferent files, or the only thing that records is the HD session of the mix?
    Thanks!

    Great video, thanks for your work. Reading the manual I take it that if I do a cross fade when switching, this is not recorded (so just a straight cut?) Wondering if this is something you have noticed?

    • @Holdannews
      @Holdannews 2 года назад +1

      Hey, are you referring to the fade in/out - if so this behaves int he same way as dip to black/white, and doesn't allow for any cross fades between shots, only hard cuts. You are correct, that this is not recorded, it's only output (currently anyway), thanks for watching! KHJ

    i’ve owned a ninja v for years and always record prores 23.98 to it when my cameras were connected directly to it, however when i am using the atomx cast and feeding input1 and 2 with 23.98 over hdmi the cast is forcing it to 29.97 and if i try to record internally to ssd it is also forcing 29.97. I don't have a ninja v but I am thinking of getting a recording monitor anyway, which do you recommend the atem mini pro iso or atomz casting. I understand I would spend a little bit more to build the cast but what I liked about the pro iso is its ability to give you a file to work with in davinci, do you know how the castx would be similar to that?

    • @Holdannews
      @Holdannews 2 года назад

      Both have pros and cons to be honest, they're rather different solutions If you want a resolve project folder then stick with the ATEM, as although something similar may come eventually to the X Cast, it's unlikely going to be a resolve project file since Blackmagic are likely to keep this feature for themselves. I have 3 cameras recording 4k, out of which one camera currently records onto NINJAv+ with 1TB SSD attached while, the other 2 cameras record on cards.
    IF I connect Atom X Cast to my Ninja V+ with a 1TB SSD & give all three cameras 4k feed by HDMI port, Can I record all 3 cameras feed in 4k on SSD?
    Or I can set all 3 cameras on 4K output, but Atom X can only give HD output, so the feed coming from 4k from cameras, will be compressed and converted to HD while storing on SSD?
    Lastly, The SDD will store all 3/4 cameras feed separately on SSD or only the camera whose feed we select while switching?

However I'm seriously thinking about returning the one I just bought because I cannot mix audio from different sources. Something that even the most basic BM ATEM can do, with no problem, even with the ability to control the gain on each audio. I find this to be the stupidest oversight on behalf of Atomos. Great question. First part, correct, with the X Cast mounted there is no possibility of mounting any other AtomX modules. Second part - let me find out for you now and come back to you...Thanks for watching! KHJ

    • @Holdannews
      @Holdannews 2 года назад

      Ok, got a concrete answer for you Martin. The Timecode of the Ninja V when it is in CAST mode is generated on the Ninja V itself and there's no way to Jam-Sync it. So you can only output TC via HDMI from the CAST. But note the Output is limited to Record Run, Time of Day, or Auto Restarting Timecode, which resets every time you press record - it doesn't really fit with ‘traditional’ timecode workflows for a properly synced system. Hope that help! KHJ

    • @Holdannews

      They are two very different products to be honest, both have differing strengths. The NinjaCast has a bright, calibrated screen that has lots of pro video monitoring tools and can also record in ProRes - a lot of filmmakers already own a Ninja too. Whilst the ATEM Mini range has great remote control capabilities (through ATEM Software controller) and as you mentioned a built in streaming encoder so you can connect it directly to a LAN. Either way i'd think you'd want to have a laptop on set regardless of which solution you use, as you really would want a reliable way of monitoring your live stream and interacting with your live platform. Thanks for watching! KHJ
