    Hey Jordan - ironically, I just watched your review on this yesterday, and this morning we awoke to a cold house. The technician actually found the 10 year old digital thermostat to be the issue. So at the local big orange store here in Canada, I happened to find this exact thermostat. I didn't have to think twice about buying it after seeing your in-depth review of it so recently! Thanks, and keep up these great videos! :)

    Stay at home mom here and I just received mine today in the mail. It was super easy step by step instructions through the sensi app. I was terrified to even try it and messing up the AC but it works great and I loooove it!

    You should check out the "geofencing" mode. It will drop 3 degrees in heating mode, or raise 3 degrees in cooling mode when you(actually your device, smartphone etc.) are 3 miles or more from home, then restore desired temp when you come back within the 3 mile distance. I think that's what you were looking for...although you'd have to switch out of "scheduling" mode to turn this on.

    That's actually a great price. I paid $100 for a thermostat not connected to the internet.
    Since it is cloud connect it looks like it could improve overtime. The mobile app could adjust the temperature when no one is home and adjust based on weather.
    Recommend going lower on the temperature to save more money. Just wear light jacket and small heater to heat the room you're mainly in.
    Great review as always.

    There are needed settings for some heat pumps that are hidden in the menu, and NO mention of them in app or customer install sheet. Spent double my normal power bill last year due to failure of system to notify of improper setup, system ran emergency heat whole winter.

    My AC/Heater units are old. Do you think I'll encounter any problems installing this unit? By the way, I got mine at the big "Jungle" store for $66.48 plus tax! I bought mine yesterday, but today I found out there may be some compatibility issues with router or with my old units.... Oooops. Do I need to return it? I guess I'll find out...

    Options include a setting for heat/off/cool. Can these options be changed via the app or only on the unit itself? Specifically I need the ability to turn the unit off remotely. Is this possible?

    Do you have to be connected to your home's wifi in order to adjust the temperature with your phone? or can you be out anywhere and still control it? If so am I able to control the thermostat, let's say if I am driving in my car on the way home from work? So in that scenario I would be working the app while not connected to wifi but using my 4G

    The reason I bought this smart thermostat (Emerson Sensi)) over all the others was due to it's not needing the "C-wire" connection. This thermostat will run on batteries (2 AA, included) alone, as did my previous thermostat which was replaced. This was a HUGE selling point for me. This means I didn't need to reconfigure wires, and install a "jumper wire" inside my furnace. The review states the batteries are only "in case you lose power"...I in the home. I don't believe this is the only intention of the batteries.

    • @kthwkr
      @kthwkr 6 лет назад +1

      I tried batteries alone. Battery life was less than a month. I ran new wires rather than come home to find my AC totally dead and the house at 95F.

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  5 лет назад

      Is your thermostat in a hallway? Do you keep the doors closed on your bedrooms? It's only measuring the temperature where the thermostat is, so if it's cooler there, it'll stay on.

    Why didn't you speak about the C wire? The fact that I don't need to hook it up to this thermostat is the key reason I am purchasing it. I was disappointed to see that you didn't touch on it's greatest feature in comparison to other thermostats on the market.

    • @robb4879
      @robb4879 6 лет назад +1

      The main reason I purchased it too. I had to return a Honeywell unit prior to this one because of the C wire, I personally did not want to mess around w/ wires on the furnace. I feel the mfg. of these newer units should outline it somewhere on the packaging to avoid returns on their units. Glad I found this one though.
      I’m sure he would of mentioned it if he did not have the common wire which is visible in the clip. Most do not think about it.

      @@robb4879 does the batteries replace the c wire?

    • @robb4879
      @robb4879 5 лет назад +1

      Hey Will, the batteries do not replace the C wire. The batteries supply the power to the thermostat. I’m pretty sure all thermostats require batteries, but for people w/ the c wire it’s used for backup purposes. I’m not 100% sure about this. I’m amazed by how long the batteries last considering there is no c wire used on mine and i change the temp frequently in my condo from the Sensi app!!
      You will not be disappointed! Just make sure to purchase the right version: www.cnet.com/news/emerson-sensi-wi-fi-thermostats-recalled-due-to-fire-hazard/

    • @victory21222
      @victory21222 5 лет назад +2

      I agree. I am a HVAC technician and noticed right away he was going way to fast on the installation of wires. Also it is important to explain where the 24 volt source may be coming from because if you don't have it shut off you could short out you transformer which would cause a homeowner about $150.00 for a service call. Sometimes just turning off the power to the furnace won't kill that source.

    My thermostat is the exact one in your opening picture. From the beginning I had a problem with it cycling the AC too often. The only adjustment they had was already set to the slowest cycle time. I tried changing it to the fastest thinking maybe they got the adjustment backwards. They hadn't. The AC turns ON/OFF/OFF about every 4 to 6 minutes. But I was living with that because at least I could access the thermostat reliably through a webpage.
    No longer.
    The Emerson webpage changed in about Jan 2018 and it went from connecting to my thermostat robustly and quickly with no perceptible delay at all. To rarely connecting to my thermostat. Sometimes OffLine for days. Thermostat had not moved. It is still 10 feet line of sight of my wifi antenna.
    The mythermostat.sensicomfort.com web page is gone and you are redirected to a new webpage which is only commercials to buy more Emerson. I have found no way to access my thermostat.
    After a call to Emerson they told me the web page changed to manager.sensicomfort.com. No where can I find that URL in the redirected web page. How was I supposed to know? But it works. Perhaps in a few months when I return to my house I can figure out why it is connecting so unreliably.

    • @victory21222
      @victory21222 5 лет назад +1

      That might be because you changed out a really old cheap thermostat that had a large differential and was cooling the the room way past the setpoint. It might have showed certain temps on the thermostat but it was not accurate. That is normal to cycle like that if it is very hot and the house is not insulated well.
