  • West Watch is a monthly webinar series that brings together NOAA staff and partners from across the agency and region to share information about climate observations and impacts across the West. It’s a great forum to learn more about recent events and conditions, and to hear from individuals and organizations that provide climate services to the region.
This month, we learned about NOAA’s research efforts related to marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR).
We were honored to have Samantha Clevenger as our presenter. Sam is a Knauss Fellow working jointly with NOAA's Ocean Acidification Program and Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management. In this role, she helps to coordinate and expand efforts between the two agencies, to grow mCDR work at DOE, and to bolster NOAA in its role as the lead Federal agency on mCDR research and development. She holds a joint PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where her dissertation focused on quantifying organic carbon transport out of the surface ocean into deeper waters, and investigating the factors controlling these processes.
