Belle was literally made to be the protagonist to be honest. It's not like Genshin where people favor Aether only because of promotional videos or HSR where there is only one character for real and you choose their gender. In ZZZ one is named Wise which makes sense for him to be the mastermind and the other is named Belle which means that she is the better one when meeting people directly. So Belle actually makes sense as the main character she'd have way more opportunities to find Fairy than Wise

Being more blunt or over-the-top can help something feel more comedic, or help convey a specific emotion to the audience. A lot of people seem to have missed the subtlety of Wise's reaction for Belle's more dramatic one. Both of them were terrified it was just expressed differently in ways that inform the player about their character.
