Glad you guys enjoyed it! This band is extremely diverse and creative in their song writing, no song of theirs is repetitive or the same. It looks like this song going to be a calmer point in the upcoming album, and like you said poppier. I recommend checking out their other recent songs Dance Devil Dance and Valley of Disease, which will also be in the upcoming album so you can get an idea of how diverse their sound is. As for previous songs I’d recommend: Hail the Apocalypse, A Secret Door, Torn Apart, Bloody Angel (music video is good but I especially love the live version for Pol’and Rock on youtube), The eagle has landed, Let it burn (there’s a good live video by loudwire of it), Silence in the age of apes, House of Eternal Hunt (live from ages). There’s plenty more but those are some good ones I think to start with. As for background of the band, they’ve actually been around since 2001, the band was started by the drummer and one of the guitarists when they were 14/15, the rest of the members joined a year after. They released their first album in 2006, their first 2 albums are Very different from what they’d end up doing later, the vocals are also not as good as they’d eventually become. The lineup hasn’t changed except for one of their guitarists leaving in 2012. And the vocalist didn’t start using the clown make up until their 4th album in 2012. As I’m sure others have mentioned they’re amazing to see live, if you ever get the chance I absolutely recommend going, the guys are incredible showmen and their music more than holds up live. One of the best most underrated bands out there.
This is a very radio friendly song. Much of Avatar is a blend of many different metal genres. I saw them live 3 times now. One of the best live performances you will every experience.
Yep. They been around since before the movie with the blue people. They are at core a melodic death metal band. But don't let that scare you!!! They are extremely diverse and every song is different from the next, yet they keep their own signature on their songs. Johannes, the lead singer has a nearly 4 Octave range and can go from metal scream/growl to clean vocals instantly. They can be pretty heavy but I would suggest in your case to check out " Going Hunting" & "The Eagle Has Landed" or even "Bloody Angel" first. Amazing live band! They have made me reevaluate what metal bands can and should be like. They are self described as "a metal circus"

He's really expressive! Ozzy vibes have in Smells like a Freakshow.)) The band just chillin with their fans.)) So cute.🥰🥰🥰 It always looks like the band is going to have problems right now, but the monsters turn out to be fans.)) Giant black figure is Ghost. 👻👻👻 The video was shot near the place where this album was recorded, in the Swedish woods, around beginning of October. This cabin can be seen at the end. The car is same from Dance Devil Dance. So Devil assembled cultists and monsters to sabbath.)) 🤘🤘😈🤘🤘The vampire is Ronja Kruus, she played Tim's girlfriend and also EDM dancer in their featurette Legend of Avatar Country" A Metal Odyssey. It's so cute that they don't forget those with whom they used to work.))) And with the Аvatar Country this clip connects also the fabulousness and friendliness of what is happening.)) The main riff of the song has been sitting around for about 20 years (like Silence in the Age of Apes), the band has said, waiting to be used. When Tim shredding cool solo, he use whammy bar, like in Hail the Apocalypse. They have very variable sound. Check out Smells like a Freakshow, New Land, The Great Pretender (official video not on official page for some reason), Going Hunting, Vultures Fly, Tower, Construction of Souls. Black Waters, Scream Until you Wake, In Napalm, Child, Tooth, Beak and Claw, Legend of the King.
You've missed out on 22 years of Avatar...starting from extreme metal to adopting the "circus" act with the release of Black Waltz. They are simply incredible and this is their first #1 Billboard song, they are probably one of the best live acts in the metal scene hands down. Recommend 2015 Wacken live set and 2019 Poland live.

Avatar is an incredible band….super versatile…heavy, melodic, and clever…and a TON of fun live!
I've been jamming this since release. This is the most relaxed song they've put out. I would recommend the live version of Smells like a freak show.
