I seen this movie for the first time back in 1997. I loved the movie and appreciated the art of the time of when it was portraying. The struggle was real and his story was real and at the end it did leave you wanting more to the story.
I've never heard of it. I will check it out.
I learned about this movie from my mom. She used to say this was the real live version of Cooley High she said this was to them more realistic. I was hooked ever since.

This was great review! I never heard of this movie nor saw it. May have to check it out one day. This movie also seemed like it was lost in the shuffle of 70s Black “hood” films like Cooley High.
Them old Wu-Tang albums used to use skits from this movie, that's how I found out about it back in the day. Niggas only be up on them pimp movies from the 70s, but shit like this and The Spook that Sat By The Door they don't be knowing about. Sonny Carson was also on Juice as the cop interrogating the crew after Raheem got killed

Great review. Classic film and many gems here. One, is that it reminds me of The Wire in a modern day aspect, particularly how there are geniuses and dreamers in these hoods with potential that never get realized. I think I narrowly escaped.
