FDE Production 2018 | "Screentime" by Bonnie Su

In a time where we are glued to our phones, many of us fall victim to the facades that others create on social media. Through frequent and high exposure to the exaggerated highlights of others’ lives, many often feel that our lives pale in comparison. Consequently, as we seek for a bigger, better, richer life, we forget to love our friends, our existing partners, and most importantly - the person that we are today.
This piece seeks to communicate two key messages; firstly, that there is often a stark contrast between the pictures we see on social media and what the person actually feels, and secondly, the anguish and sadness that results from a desperate desire to become the perfect online character that is validated via likes and comments.
Most of all, I hope that my friends and family don’t allow social media to ever make them feel anything less than extraordinary.
