Springbank 27 Year Old James MacArthur (500 Years of Scotch Whisky)

Commemorative whisky bottlings often come with a lot of red flags, with the suspicion being that the product will be of a lesser quality as it was created as a memento or a collectable, rather than to be opened and enjoyed. James MacArthur pulled out all the stops however with this release, choosing a 27 year old Springbank to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the first written reference to Scotch whisky (search for 'friar john cor whisky' for the full story). Having sat in the bottle for 30 more years, Laurie and Ross crack it open and give it a try.

I have quite a few bottles from JM, all cask strengths : J. MacArthur was a famous American actor in the Hawaii Five-0 series ... usually, the Bottler show case off-the-beaten tracks Malts for auld-timers to try : no "wow" factor but always UNIQUE notes and aroma(s) to contemplate on . . . NEVER water please !
