The "Mid or Feed" was always on provisional matches. "Top or Troll"

The worst part about the old role selection method was that the chat box didn't correctly sync the timing of the messages, so if two players typed "mid" at the same time, they would see the messages in a different order and each of them would think that they got their preferred role and then they would start arguing about it. Then one of them would say "okay double mid then" and everyone would start begging for someone to dodge.
When that happened, someone else had to decide who was first - but things got crazy when a duo pretended to be first :D

Yes, I hated that shit. Lol. Even if I was first loaded in, it would lag until other people dropped in and I’d be typing bot the whole time, lag for 5 seconds, come back, and there’d be like 10 messages calling bot. Like fuck that shit man.

I will never forget Evelynn being so weak you could literally only jungle her by dying to your 2nd camp.
Granted this was also partly a problem of no one leashing back then. Especially back then as the ai was coded differently and a friend could leash and let you take blue or red without taking a single hit. The wiggle walk.
Depends on what champ you were in the jungle with. If your champ was strong enough and you were skilled the brown bags and heal pots allowed you to get ahead of the enemy much faster because of the move speed advantage.
It's sad that I experienced all of these, and remember almost every single one of them. Gained nothing out of it, but joy and friends.
I quit after Season 3 pretty much but the first 3 seasons were the most enjoyable time ever spent gaming on a computer.

Twisted Treeline with the Jax in top lane and if your team went AFK you would 1v3 the enemy and still win almost every game. It was broken. (never had more fun on a computer in my entire life)

I used to top Trynda, exhaust-ignite all-in lvl 2 (i had atk speed runes and he had crazy crit at low hp), then spin up to take the whole jungle, spin back for next wave. It was crazy imba for mobile champs, and back then not everyone could just dash over walls.

I actually loved the og rune system, the grind felt more rewarding and my builds more unique
I absolutely hated it. League was pay to play back then with the rune system and my friends would flame me caus they thought they were better when in reality just had more runes than me

best old galio anecdote i have was in 5 man premade ranked game, my friend was playing galio and we knew the full stack enemy team was trying to trap us in the riverbush - my friend ran up to it and flash into the bush only to realize his ult was still on cooldown... nevertheless 4 out of 5 enemies flash out 🤣
And didn't sound like and have the personality of a lobotomized bulldog. OG Galio sounded nobel, kind and wise. New one just wants to smash things. I will admit getting kills with his old ult was difficult as the entire team would kill steal you before it could pop. Guarantee that if the Eternals system was in existence back then, no one would get that one past the milestones

1 honorable mention should go to something that we see in the video at 12:22 which is to memorize the respawn time of monsters and use chat as a reminder.
The moment when you played bad, sold everything and placed endless wards on the map what made your team win in the end. 13 year old me won't forget this.

that was my main strategy playing leona support. heart of gold, highest movement boots possible, and the remaining 4 items were all max stacks of wards. just run around the enemy jungle lighting it up like a christmas tree.
Miss the days of freedom too. A bunch of normal games were just about people experimenting and goofing off in a game. I had many fun times with enemy teams back then when I had all chat always on. People on both teams would laugh together about silly interactions or cool plays. It wasn't considered trolling back then to try weird builds or double jungle. I remember games where we stopped killing each other and just had 10 person dance offs in mid. Or racing to the enemy nexus while they did the same. Or intentionally feeding the worst playing in a game. Even the streamers and content were sillier with what they tried.
Now the chat is so toxic with mostly trash talk, and player's only goal is to win, which makes losing way less fun.

Dominion was so fun and different from the normal League experience. We need another permanent mode thats focused on being fun.

to this very day i can't understand why riot just straight up removed twisted treeline... im not a big fun of playing with randoms, and TT allowed me to play full squad with just 2 friends but its history now
cuz it was less than 1% players that played it. so it was a lot anyway. I miss the TT... fuck rito
Greed mainly. They had to expend balance team resources to keep TT up to date (even though in reality they only patched it a few times a year and usually barely changed it, so in practice it was low maintenance). They claimed the playerbase of TT was too low to justify using resources on it so they just dropped it in favor of even lower maintenance (and lower quality) party game modes like arams and the often-terrible rotating game modes.
I remember in the latter years it eventually got bad with bots. Every game had at least 2 bots which ruined the experience
@nero.blackstar This was a result of them refusing to put any resources toward upkeeping the mode, including any form of punishment for obviously rule-breaking behavior. Basically the overarching reason why it was eventually canned.
@GigaLigma Yeah, that as well. Overall it was just prioritization issues. They prioritized SR over TT which I can't blame them. However, now that it's gone I miss it.

So many inaccuracies here. Only showed the reworked twisted treeline, there was an even older version. Also summoner's rift had 2 reworks, it also had an even older version.
Poppy was anything but useless. Her core items were tri-force and shurelia and she could solo carry.
Also some of the most important deleted items were Innervating locket and malady.
And a lot more old features, Journal of justice, champion judgements etc.

I remember when champions could dodge, Jax his counterstrike tanked towers, Madreds blood razor existed, Fiora ult was a Master Yi Q on steroids that worked with tiamat, we had a summonerspell named surge, Nocturne was the OG black guy, you could buy 6 archangel staffs, 2x bloodthirster 2x phantomdancer and 1x infinity edge was the adc build.
Yo those are the ones I always bring up! They removed surge cause low pick but I bet today it would be so popular with all the hybrid on hit champs

Man I’m so old that not only I remember the old structure of the client when finding a game but there wasn’t even a decline button back then. You either accept or press an option that gave you some more time before it automatically takes you to the champ select
WOW. You did not mention the Old Heinerdinger with 5 cannons that when you ulted turned all 5 cannons into fast attack with slow affect. Or Teemo AD was devastating.

I remember waaaaay back with the original Sion in season 2 I think or maybe even before that. In twisted treeline with the original Sion, you could make him so powerful that you could walk into the enemy spawn and pentakill the entire enemy team without dying if you bought some specific items. It was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in any video game
The 3v3 jungle is very unique. You can easily reach ranked mode. But the huge downside is the very long wait. And the sad thing is, Riot last made changes in 2015-2016. And they didn't do anything useful. And then they removed it and claimed that 1% of people played it, which is NOT TRUE.

As broken as old Season 1-2 LoL was, I would pay 300$ just to buy a LoL Classic. It was broken but FUN, simple and accessible. I really really loved it.

@ReigoVassalYup I know. It's actually the reason I stopped playing League. I got pissed off by Riot's greedy corporate bs. Instead of working with the Chronoshift team or just acquiring and developing the project, they shut it down because they got scared and realized a shit ton of people would stop playing the hot garbage they've turned the game into.

Miss the days of global range TF and Pantheon ults, all dodge Yi, or actually hybrid Jax and Akali. So many other champions that got reworked that I miss. Twisted Treeline is my most missed old feature

Also don’t forget there was no visible cooldown timer for TP and flash so you would have to manually add it up once u saw it used and put it into chat when it would be off cooldown

1:46 - Chat restrictions were not a part of the game when the Tribunal was a thing. The Tribunal got retired shortly before Chat Restrictions were implemented.

nah, it sucked ass, take off nostalgia glasses, this system forced you to play very few champs since runes were so expensive and having wrong set would put you at huge disadvantage

If you swap constantly within your champion pool it diminishes your chances to actually win a game...

@gudgejm i sucked for people that didnt have 20 rune pages and collected all necessary runes, so I had a nice advantage in this, it was cool :3 it gave advantage for regular players that played a lot and had enaugh knowledge in game, also there was much bigger variation in builds

The thing with tribunal, there as a requirement to be able to be part of it, which essentially was: do not get reported, managed to be on there for a year, then got random repo, and my favorite popcorn time was gone, you could also compare to how many people voted in the same way as you to understand your accuracy and other bits.
But overall, tribunal not only helped control toxicity through having actual people reviewing the reports and sending out punishments which were based on % of people agreeing on the punishment, but also, due to the requirement of not having been reported for the season of the time (if i remember right, as it would refresh after a year and you could try getting into tribunal again) people tried harder to be supportive, same as when we had the honor icons released and the 4 classes of honor, these kind of things helped in some areas, just a shame that they vanished, though i do love those icons, inc the master of all "classes" icon
True. I still remember meeting some nice people back then. For example, if you or your opponent left the game, it was considered a gentlemanly thing to stay AFK for the same role in an enemy team.
