  • These first-time donors are in for a surprise - wait for it.
This video was filmed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rest assured, all blood donors and collections staff wear face coverings as well as social distance at all Red Cross blood drives, but we look forward to giving out hugs and high fives when it’s safe to do so again. For now, we’re cheering you on from a distance.

I donated blood for the first time in November 2022 at the age of 20. So glad I did it because I have a friend who donates whenever he can. I faced my fear and CONQUERED it.

when i was born i lost 1/5 of my blood and needed transfusions urgently. without the people out there who donate who knows what would have happened. from me and on behalf of all of us who ever have or ever will need blood: thank you to the donors who make sure that there will always be a supply ❤️.

I donated today and the tech was telling me about this video from his training.
I donate because I loss my friend to a tainted blood transfusion she received for her Sickle Cell treatment and about 2 yrs ago I loss another friend due to complications after a transfusion she received because of Sickle Cell.
I donate in their honor. I wish more people realized that you don't have to donate during a crisis. There is always a need no matter what your blood type is.
Also... I beat my personal record and filled my bag in 3mins and 43 seconds.

I want to thank the American Red Cross. I had a blood donation as a little girl, and actually gave blood as a College Freshman. Despite the fact that I was told I couldn't give blood because I had to receive it, I was recently invited by The American Red Cross to donate blood. Of course, I am scared, because I had to get five pints to save my life, but I want to do the same for someone else.

Don't let these people lay a finger on you.!They are lying.Blood donation is a painful violent abuse of the body and you need to reconsider this before it's too late!
These people have no right to invade high schools and procede to make many young people bleed like geysers.
Blood donation hurts a lot and will leave you feeling dizzy, disoriented, sick to your stomach and you could even lose consciousness.
Happens all the time. That needle is in you for 10 to 15 minutes or longer.
One of my friends friends did this and he wound up collapsing on a soccer field and had to be carted off on a stretcher.
Same thing happened to a customer at my place of work. They throw away at least half of what they take anyway.
The idea of having someone stab a sharp object into my body and take out my DNA and everything that makes me unique and an individual has always scared me senseless. I live in fear that my friends will fall victim to this and I will never be able to think of them the same way again because when you do this you're giving away something you can never get back your DNA and your family heritage.
Once you do this, you can't change your mind the next day and take back the life that has been savagely ripped out of you. My stepfather got hepatitis C from this. These people abuse young people and I am writing this because I have an obligation to say these truths that I know in hopes that I can save someone from making a mistake they can't take back.
      Don't give yourself away!

@@joeadams4752 Hep C spreads through blood, right, true, but wouldn't they CHECK your blood for Hep C before they even consider letting you donate? And also, only 38% of people are eligible because, they have CONDITIONS that DISQUALIFY them.

I'm 66 and have 183 lifetime units with 187 visits - 2 visits were deferred because of low blood iron and 2 because of low blood pressure. Drink a bottle or two of water ahead of time, it helps. It's amazing to me how fast they set up their equipment, it's like a military operation. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the blood techs have had, or will have, military service. If you pass the health questionnaire, the main thing is to ask the blood tech any questions you may have before, during and after the donation - there is no such thing as a dumb question, and they want you to feel comfortable. Make sure to stay 15 minutes at the snack bar after donating. There's a chance your blood could save someone's life, but if not, it is vital that we all do the right thing for others and donate as often as possible. Keep up the good work!

I would LOVE to donate blood, but since I'm gay, here in the US they don't allow me to, unless I abstain from s** for at least 3 months. In 2020 when I first got COVID-19 pre-vaccine, I wanted to donate plasma, since it was very encouraged for COVID-19 survivors to do it for the antibody treatment on other patients, but I was still not allowed to due to my sexuality. Oh well, I guess stigmas and stereotypes are more important than helping people🙃

Honestly just lie and say you haven't. You know rather or not you are at-risk of HIV and the blood is tested before it's given to someone in need. Sadly, the FDA requires that active gay/bi men be deferred, it's outdated and most blood centers would drop the requirement if they had the choice.

An ounze of prevention is worth a pound of cure.....eating organic and fasting from processed foods will reduce cancer....and strengthen immune system...having said that...then blood donation should be a final resort rather than the primary means to fight cancer...having said that i have donated 15 units thus far and will continue if precious children will survive cancer as a result of the donation. Hoping the incidence of cancer reduces as health and faith good sound morals overrides foolish neglect and arrogance in more people. 🙏
