  • In this video we take an in-depth look at the '59 Low Wind from Mojotone. It has been put in the neck position od my 2011 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro. If you are looking for more clarity in your Les Paul, these are as good as it gets.

Once I discovered P90s in a Les Paul I never thought twice about going back to humbuckers. There's so many pickups out there it makes your head spin

Mojotone is awesome. I've got the Quiet Coils in my Strat and I love it. Doesn't surprise me that they nailed a pup for a Les Paul.

It's so amazing when you Finally find the right Pickups. I recently got turned-on to Lollar Dirty Blondes and I am On Cloud 9. Really enjoyed your tone on the neck pickup. Low wind is the way to go.

Yeah it can take a few years to get your head switched on to what you are actually hearing and dial things in. A lot of people just keep flipping guitars and never really do that and just hope to get lucky, but you can absolutely dial in any guitar ..

Another great and informative video. I had 57’s in a 2016 Traditional LP that sounded muffled and woolly on both pickups no matter what I did to the guitar or amps. Sold it. Bought a 2015 Standard LP instead for less money which has the Burstbuckers which is so much more playable and stays in tune better. I like the wider fretboard and robotic tuning. Very tempted now to take the plunge and swap the pickups at some point even though the Burstbuckers aren’t bad. Mojotone’s website is bound to be getting a lot of hits off this.

Thanks for posting this video. I have had a style change as of late. I have noticed the rig that I am using right now has changed substantially as well as in size. Who knows, my next gig, I might show up with just an acoustic.
One thing I have been looking at is
p/u's for one of my les paul's and my 335. I've run Duncan's, Dimarzio, EMG's, stock Gibsons, and recently, Bareknuckles for my humbuckers. I've even been looking at P90's.
but I am looking for/hearing something with this type of tone and output. Clear but sweet and buttery.
Thank you for your giving nature in this channel. Your channel is very informative, I think we have a lot of the same influences, plus the fact that you play pedals that I love and own. I like it here.

Killer Tone and Playing my man. I just bought a set of these. I worked at Black Creek Guitars from 06-10 and now I just renovated a space for Watchtower Guitars in Morristown NJ and will be doing videos for them as well as all the set up work. We have a ton of 59 reissues among other great guitars and amps. Have you tried locking your tailpiece down to the body and wrapping over the top? DR Pure Nickel Blues are amazing strings as well. Keep up the good work and I’m buying a Lovepedal Box Of Awesome because of you! The older style bridges make a difference imo as well.

Great video! The neck pickup with that Germanium fuzz - whoa. This is just what I’m looking for to upgrade the stock pickups in my D’Angelico DC Mini. Love the guitar but I really have to crank the tone on my amp to get anything clear out if the neck pickup. These should do it!

If you have a Gibson Les Paul made in last few decades and it sounds muddy it is 100% because of the wiring harness. Even on the Murphy Lab guitars they use shitty replica braided cable that adds ton of parallel capacitance and plus signal and tone and details in the ground. Thing I do is to replace it all and use proper cable that Gibson use to use in the 50’s. That means opening up pickups to and changing its hookup cable to. If you measure pickup resistance with digital Ohm meter you will read higher value after the modification despite the fact that I do not mess with the coils. It will measure higher Resistance but it will not be muddier. It will even be slightly louder. How come? Simple, with shit cable all that you hear after it and you haven’t before was leaking to the ground. Length of the cable in the Les Paul is like 2 meters, all added up that is. That eats up the tone even on great guitars with light weight dry wood. Almost a year ago I bought myself really good Les Paul. I’ve turned 50 and it was a time to own really good one. Went to buy a made to measure 59 and came home with R7 Murphy Lab. It sounded best. I have done same with it and it is brilliant. Why people get boutique P.A.F. Replicas? Because good winders use proper cable to. Talked with many of them they use same brand as I use. Recently I’ve made an experiment. Took relatively cheap set of humbuckers that claims same build procedures and materials like used on real deal. Changed it’s default 4 wire hookup cable and setup pole peace’s to my ear. Incredible. Despite being potted, although lightly, they sound so good now. Fraction of the price of any of my high end pickup sets I use and very very close to them. For original pickups like in case of my Custombuckers I put them back same as they were. Same pole peace’s setup and pickup height. Do not want to change their native sound. But to some other brands it’s open season. I set them up as they need to be set according to my ear and preference. I have done complete wiring and electronic change even on cheaper guitars and transformation is unbelievable. Did it on the Epiphone 1959 current model. Friend has exceptional specimen. Very lightweight and resonant. Transformation was so big I couldn’t believe. Sonically it challenges Custom Shop guitars. Though he got fret job and complete setup to. Lightweight tail peace, handpicked pots, paper in oil caps and all. Sure Custom Shop guitars finish feels better but on the end he has sound that rivals 4 to 5 times more expensive models. Capacitance is enemy of the tone. Sure sometimes you need capacitance of long cable or some tone pot rolled in. But with stock Gibson you can’t have without it. With modded one you can add it with your tone pot. Same as on the vintage guitars you do not start on all pots on 10. You get perfect sound before 10 to. 50-ies wiring is a must though.

So many top artists use/used the Gibson Classic 57 HB on their hits more than any other pickup! The Stones for one used a Gibson 57 Classic in the neck of their teles to record rhythms like Brown Sugar and a long list of others, ZZ-Top, you name it they used them, How many use mojo-tone ? none I can ever remember!

If the 57 classic sounded muffled and unclear, it is the pots and caps not the pickup Homie! The 57 classics were designed by Tom Holmes and are replicas of his own classic HB that he sells for over $400 each! AND when guitar player did a pup shoot-out the Gibson 57 classic came in 2nd right after the Tom Holmes Classic! You basically removed a diamond and swapped it out for a turd!
