This is my song for my mom- and all the horrendous abuse I survived and overcame. Nearly 6 years sober and its been progress on a perpetually downward slope. Im not going down without a fight.
There's a few, in my opinion, but they're all relatively similar. The main one is that this song is written from the perspective of Lucifer after he was cast into Hell. But as always with music, there's an actual meaning, and then there's the one you make of it. I don't think it's a bad thing to draw your own conclusions as to what the meaning behind a song is.
For me it was to do with never pleasing my religious father. He looked down on me yet I was a good person but didn't stay in his faith. I was never good enough for him. He felt his faith made him good and me bad but he was bad just brcause I was outside his faith. I don't wear his broken crown. And I took the road. And I fucked it all the way. And in this twilight how dare he talk of grace....
I personally think it may be someone trying to tempt the singer into joining them, like an evil ruler asking someone to rule alongside them. but the power is false and formed from blood, hence it's a broken crown and broken rule. and "how dare you speak of grace" implies hypocrisy, perhaps the broken crown is built on religious fanaticism? and the singer would rather "crawl on my belly til the sun comes up" than join the ruler. but that's why I like these types of songs, they can have many meanings!
It's the story of Lilith, Adam's first wife before Eve. She basically saw how the world was flawed and became the "mother of demons" because she pointed it out to God. One of the things she mentioned was a "broken crown"
This song means, Everybody is SCREWED up in one way or another, However, when A line gets drawn.... Some will ALWAYS show who they really are.... Just when THEY think THEY got ya.... YOU ARE TRUE AND THEY ARE NOT... SO YOU CAN GO UP THAT ROAD..... NO MATTER WHAT COMES..... AND FUCK THEM ALL THE WAY!!! BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT BE ANYTHING BUT WHAT YOU TRULY ARE.... THEY ARE ALWAYS HOPING TO BREAK YOU....HENCE.... CRAWL ONLY BELLY...... I'LL NEVER BE WHAT YOU WANT..... CAUSE I KNOW WHAT I AM
Yep. God bless that broken road. Better option than the broken crown.
