Planning is key to starting any sort of build. I know for a fact I don’t do it enough and it’s damaging as time goes on! Great video really informative
One of my favorite builds in Storm City was Shady Pines, a little farming town styled after a Swiss mountain village. (Shady Pines Farms owe a LOT to your tutorials, BTW!) Pretty much did much of what you'd suggested - I planned its location, size, and primary features. (The centerpiece is a lake, a mountain waterfall, and a jumping rock called Fledgie's Leap, as well as Parisian-style open-air farmer's market). Since it was entirely fictional, Google Earth wasn't as useful so I simply had to fly by the seat of my pants. Still detailing it, but it otherwise turned out fantastic looking, and I owe a lot of that to your tutorials and some of your videos. :-)
@@Pug.Gaming Storm City has some unique challenges, as it's a city set on a parallel universe Earth where humans do not exist, but various intelligent flyers do. So, their cities have far less ground traffic, but far more aerial traffic (and many more "pedestrians). This provides unique challenges and not all of them the game can solve - it's based on a human city paradigm, after all! But I can still add a lot of features you won't see in a human city, and the layouts are a little different. TL;DR: Even in such an unusual city, you, Biffa and bsquiklehausen's techniques still work and work very well. In the novella that the city will be the setting of, I will be sure to give you credit. :-) It was your tutorials that goosed me into learning Procedural Objects and that's proven an absolute godsend in Storm City.
@@Pug.Gaming thanks you for your tutorial ! i downloaded houses assets for make a town like your but i have an issue, i don't see anymore the tool for search what i need, it looks like a magnifying glass i dunno if you see xD can you help me sir please ?
I like to use the natural lay out to decide the roads. In real life, roads are more often placed in a convenient way, so there's less landscaping needed.
Thank you for all your help now and in the past. Getting started is always the hardest bit so good advice to plan for newbies. The trouble I have is I keep changing my mind and going back and changing stuff. But that's just me.
When I watched it I found the roads you using I really wanted to find new roads that I can use. Il use google maps to be inspired now but it will take time.
Hey, I'm currently attempting a webcomic and was on the hunt for a program or game that'd essentially allow me to build a town to use as reference. CS never crossed my mind until now, would you recommend it for what I'm attempting?
The main difficulty is to keep the city alive and see the citizens moving, while trying to make a realistic looking city. The question I have is how to make realistic cities, as example realistic farm areas, using the DLC Industries stuff... ?
The problem is; everytime I watch some videos, I get my courage back, I reinstall the game and start. I open new game and I open the town I would like to draw. And this is where the problem starts. I don't know what assets to subscribe before I start the town and we all know that I cant see one house, find something similar on workshop, subscribe it, restart the game, build it and again. How do you realistic city builders manage to have all the necessary assets before you build the city?
Question, are you basically playing this in pure "sandbox" / design mode rather than actually playing the game with real traffic, population happiness, finances etc etc?
I really want to do a realistic uk map, but have no idea how to find the right assets or how to organise those I do find. Also, I'm extremely crap at the game 😂😂😂
This is a so nice video~ I've been playing this game for a while but still can't really make my city realistic. I'm able to create some mega realistic giant airbase(functional) and Airport, but my city is just.....functional. There are always weird parts when I look at it.
I think it depends wether you're playing the game to "recreate" a place (cheats enables, infinites money etc..), or if you're playing the game the way the developers intended you to (RCI, etc..), in that case you may not want to plan your city Something else that wasn't said is that i will advise to not plan too much. Let your city grow naturally, don't take too much long-term decisions, that will help your city to look realistic Sorry for grammar, i'm not english
Every house does not need to park a car. I wish more people would explore car free cities and villages instead of recreating what destroys our natural habitat. And yes, it is possible to do a City in Skylines without private cars.
For much of North and South America being a non driver means inaccessibility. It also means you are unemployable. It plummets you to the bottom rung of society. There is no compromise when you live miles from a bus line, work, or services. The Americas are simply huge in comparison to the old countries.
@@akdamagecontrol True. Need to go to the store? Have fun driving to an ugly Walmart parking lot. Need to go to work? Good luck driving through 45 minutes of traffic. I hate how car dependent we are here in north America
"no, i am not an expert at this" - expert at this

I recreated a small thing from Stoke on Trent in my village and I must say that it looks wonderful!
I was the same, never planned just started laying down roads. Now I use google earth all the time.
It helps so much doesn't it!
PugGaming Absolutely

Nice town... I’m still struggling to fined European commercial buildings. Anyway I like the bit about “it’s not about perfection”.
I’m just starting to try and make realistic cities and I’m sooooo bad at it. It’s fun learning though!
I totally agree! and the great thing is, you are always learning with this game :D
That's great,I wish you good luck!

gosh some of the clips looked so real! amazing
Thank you so much!!
For realsitic uk builds, i build the main roads, put some homes down then work out how big the homes are so i can fit more in.
Honestly its a good information in a simple language 🌸🌸🌸
Absolutely brilliant video, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you!
Thanks for your thoughts. I've been playing CS for several years now, but I always get good ideas from others!
Glad to hear it!
I'm a little kid but I'm superrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr good at making a UK road layout even though I live in the US but this is so inspiering.

Lots of wise words. I really need to start planning more with my build. Get those roads down first.
