Very clever! I do the same. I have been an electrical engineer for 42 years. Sure, if I have a new jack, I use it because it’s nicer, but it’s just as good!

Many headphone cables have pressure-fitting for the conductors rather than using solder, and for those, it is often very difficult to solder to the concentric rings. In general, I will not try to repair using the original tip. Sometimes the wire colors are non-standard in molded cables, and often the wire is so fine that a chisel tip on a non-temperature controlled iron will simply melt away the insulation. I would have used flux paste after having cleaned the exposed wire, and tinned the leads while the cable end was in the jig. The best results I've had for this sort of thing is to get a replacement jack that is designed to be used with solder and has its own strain-relief and cover, and use thin heat-shrink around the connections and up the cable before screwing on the cap. Depending on how the cable is being used, additional heat-shrink around the assembly is not a bad idea (never tried that myself). If you don't have a good way to get a replacement jack but have some unusable device with an intact jack and at least several inches of cable is to splice the plug-end of the headphone cable to the salvaged plug and wire and use heat-shrink and glue to provide protection and strain-relief. (Note that ear-buds often have extremely difficult conductors, including what appears to be conductive polyester thread for at least 1 or 2 of them, and there is no way to get a good solder join by hand. If possible, I would cut off the old plug, put it in a vise, then carefully cut the over-mold to make sure I know what color of conductor was attached to each ring. Cutting the insulator with a utility knife while holding it in the palm of your hand is asking for trouble.
Thanks, helpful info. This solidiring is really tough in case of wired earphones. How can I check which color wire to join on which ring without DMM ? I am asking cuz some have different arrangements at rings...(red - copper - blue - green) will it work on all jacks.?
The start with the knive is very dageres for your fingers, work always in the direction from the finger away . Thank you for your video, greatings from switzerland.
Thanks Bro... It took very long for me but i am really thankfull to you! Actually my headphones were not giving me the left sound output. Now they are working very fine. Nice video!
Very clever chap. Wish I had your knowledge. Thank you for sharing. Given me some ideas. I particularly like the tinning of the fine wires, they can be a real pain!
Not bad. To clean the wire from the varnish, I use a tablet of acetylsalicylic acid. You press the wire with a soldering iron to the tablet and after a couple of seconds the acid corrodes the varnish and the wire can be easily tinned. The main thing is not to inhale the smoke, otherwise a strong cough is guaranteed. At the end, the braid could be squeezed in a vice, then the seam would come together and you would not have to cut it before putting on the shrink. Translation using Yandex translator.
try spinning some spring onto spot where your wire keeps breaking or reinforce with shrink tube or Bondic(R). Spring works great for me if you can find right kind of type & fit. Maybe even silicon caulking and or electrical tape somehow.. ;]

Thanks for teaching us to repair head phones jack pin. It’s a perfect way to repair it but frankly speaking you must admit that some serious mistakes have been made during illustration.
heat shrink goes on cable first, easier to slide it on that way with different sizes in order if you want to double up or put smaller one on cable end etc
Superb..! it is just amazing to watch you do the entire process. I was literally while watching it the first time. It certainly helped me with my headphones, i have several pairs which weren't working. Thanks a Lot
00:22-00:47 - нельзя так делать! В большинстве случаев это заканчивается порезанными пальцами! Возьмите обычный женский фен для сушки волос - нагреваете и снимаете, как вам надо( откусив провод предварительно кусачками).
First, the soldering iron was way overheated and that was why no solder could stick onto the tip of the soldering iron and that caused rapid oxidation of the solder and in turn made it hard to pre-tin the wires. Second, the soldering job was just sloppy there shouldn't be a big bean of solder on the connection point. Third, he didn't even check for mic, left audio, right audio wires configuration. Forth, if he did a decent job of soldering the wires he could close the white plastic sleeve without shaving it down. Over all a very unimpressive repair job.
next time try to insert the black tube first before make a conection and after soldering you can slide it back to the position without extra cut. this rule apply for almost all cable soldering
It need to be a certain pattern usually most headphones goes like from top blue . Green . Yellow. Red Cause if you miss the Pattern u may get confusing sound like hearing right in left ear and those stuff..

Copper wire 👉 ground (common)

The heat shrinking tube is a very good idea. Thanks
É melhor ele ir no camelô e comprar um novo
It could also be repaired with Hot Wax, but one uses what one has.
You should use glue gun instead of shrink tube.
Thanks this video, Now i decide buy new earphones !
First bit, blade comes out, next bit fingers covered with plasters :P Nice repair though :)
Gr8 sir.. Actually superb.
I've done this many times and the main wisdom in the end - in fact, it was necessary just to strengthen it with a heat shrink without disassembly.
Im confused which wire where to solder....total are 4.
Or use apoxy coating as well, very thin, slim & reliable, long lasting.

You make the simple process hard, but anyway good effort, like your work، use the tar to remove insulation layer on the hand free's wires.
Good lesson, thank you!
When reconnecting with the jack, does the wire need to be in the pattern you did? Or we can do in whatever pattern i want?
It need to be a certain pattern usually most headphones goes like from top blue . Green . Yellow. Red
Cause if you miss the Pattern u may get confusing sound like hearing right in left ear and those stuff..

You have to burn the tips of the wire coating with the help of the gas lighter once the coating is removed it is very easy to solder the wires
yes or use some sandpaper to gently remove the coating
🟦 An Industrial-type 'Scotch-Brite' pad works best! (I use the burgundy or the gray).
