I want to give EVERY young collector out there some advice....buy the cards you like that you want to keep in your collection, DO NOT buy cards as an "investment". Look at all the players who came out with great hype, who's cards skyrocketed right out of the gate, only to drop right back to earth. I have been guilty of that too. Lafreniere, Eichel, Nolan Patrick.
It depends on your approach. You can own cards that just so happen to increase in price. Or you can strategically purchase cards that can significantly grow year after year. I get your sentiment, but your inability to capitalize on rookies doesn't mean it's not an investment. There are many people who have careers based on buying and selling cards
@@robtalkshockeycards I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my comment. If you buy the cards of your favourite players, regardless of the value of that card, it's a player you like. I personally buy the cards of players I like, with no plans on selling them. In my opinion hockey card "investors" kind of ruin the hobby for collectors. The value of my collection over the last 5 years or so has skyrocketed. I have cards that I bought 20+ years ago, like my Bobby Orr rookie, Gordie Howe rookie, Cyclone Taylor from 1910-11, that I could never afford to collect now because prices have gone insane. I have no plans on selling any of them, but a person collecting those same cards now would have to have a lot of money. That is my issue with card speculators and investors.
Yeah that's fair. The prices of boxes then in turn cards has gotten outrageous. With that being said there's pro's and con's. Lot's of older cards have significantly increased in value which eases the pain
@@carletonrutherford1799 ok boomer. I’ve been in this “hobby” for the past 35 years. I knew you had no clue where this hobby is right now if you’re mentioning anything Orr related. It’s you muppets claiming to know more than the average card enthusiast. I’ve owned my shop since 92, the market has changed but so has the collector and the hobby. I don’t agree with grading with PSA anymore though, especially hockey, you boys are going to be in for a rude awakening when you go to sell your PSA 10 and realize they are a dime a dozen. That’s really the only thing the new breed can’t seem to comprehend.
@@carletonrutherford1799 ps all those cards you named, nobody is after. That’s why you won’t sell them. Nobody wants those part time hockey players. Wake up.
Not bashing the card or anything but I was honestly surprised that the Pettersson YG received a 10. I immediately noticed that the top left corner was a little rounded when you pulled it out. Congrats nonetheless!
Nice video… MNT may be a smaller company currently but consensus seems to be that they grade significantly tougher than PSA and around the same level as BGC. Nice cards!
Black Canvases seem to get pulled damaged. I pulled 2 regular black canvas both with edge issues. One black ygc had top edge damage. Great cards u have.
There was definitely some hidden issues with the 2nd print of UD2. I killed it the first time on YG’s. Went 0/4 on McTavish the second round and 5/7 the first time.
when ur questioning why the raymond got a ten and literally go huh well if its a gem mint its a gem mint EXACTLY why i dont buy psa u just literally nailed it lol. bullshit halfass grades depending on the graders mood. fan of teams etc. det get 10s ur others get 8s lol
Just wanted to say, in my opinion, MNT does not grade high. 10's from them are very hard to get. In fact, I would say an MNT 9.5 will almost always grade PSA 10. PSA hands out 10's like candy on Halloween.
Rob I like you and your videos but please research before saying stuff, MNT is actually one of the harder grading companies next to BGS The boeser is also a rookie tribute and not actually even a rookie card from 18/19 clearcut and not SPA and PSA Petterson is not a $250 dollar card , it is consistently selling for 125 to 130 US or 170 to 175 Canadian
True. What I was trying to say is that MNT has worse resale. And the Boeser is a Tribute Rookie, and Pettersson has multiple recent sales fluctuating between $200-$250 which will only go up as he continues to produce
@@robtalkshockeycards i’m debating on this but just not sure if it’s cheaper doing yourself or sending to a place that sends for you. do you ever get hit with dutys/taxes?
@@slippyhits9488 I did not get hit with duties. It was basically $10 per card grading promo + shipping. My advice is to wait until you have 10+ cards with good grading potential
Hey Rob I kinda ventured into the world of hockey cards again recently as well and I’m looking to send some cards in for grading. Did you use PSA’s official website or did you use PSA Canada? I’ve been trying to research the best way to submit cards.
Do you invest in a player who think will pop off?

Kaprizov
I'm thinking Swayman

i came here to say the same no hate on the card but that corner is messed up
PSA grades cards by throwing a dart at a board full of numbers and seeing which gets hit.
I really think Swayman is gonna be a good investment for goalies
Looking good! Just sent my first order in recently too haha. Good to see a couple of 10s!

Before Tage Thomason’s breakout I was hunting his Cup RPA, but decided not to spend the $80… LOL
🔥🔥🔥 on the E.Petterson

I just pulled a McTavish skybox metal green auto /10. I'm hoping he turns into a stud as well.
I have a petey 18-19 spgu relic blends patch /15 and 2 Byfield 1st official cards 20-21 autos /10 I might move soon. All pulled from ud epack.
Jake neighbors is my favorite
4 + 2 is 5 ??? Sorry had to mention it lol
Let’s go can’t wait to see! 🎉

MNT actually grades quite a bid harder than psa or some of the other companies.
PSA is 💩

Psa is pumping so many 10s out that the value is the same as a bgs 9.5 these days.
I should send my ep40 in to get graded have him and Quinn fwa
4+2=5 he says😂😂😂

How do you know if they are legit or not
PSA giving 10s out like nothing lately
did you send these in yourself or to a place that sends them in for you? seeing as you’re from canada
I sent them in myself

Yes I used PSA's official website. It's a little confusing, so just watch a tutorial and it's not too bad
How much did it cost you to get all that graded at PSA? And do you have a video on the process?
About $160 in total. I am currently making one about my process 👌🏼
