For 15 years, I've been trying to learn how to (how not to) paint pressure-treated wood. no one would tell me. Now, you all just answered my question! I can die happy. from a dedicated fan.
MVP award goes to Arlo, the sweat that he produced under the stairs was enough for Jamie to wash his hands. Must say that I'm surprised that the dry wall guys left their mess, but it seems to be the norm. The places are definitely looking on the home straight now. Looking forward to next post, take care and be well 🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨
Wow! Amazing how meticulous your team is for everything you do. The love for everything you do shows on the results. MR. ARLO ❤ you leave me speechless, no words.
I have some 30 channels I follow on youtube, Risinger, life uncontained, some crypto stuff and Portugal channels, prof.of Rock.etc. But you guys are the only people that deliver every single time. Not one vid is bad. Thank you for delivering, great job.
Old school painter taught me that if you put a couple of inches of water in your wet dry vac when you vacuum up after the drywall finishers it would eliminate 90% of the drywall dust! Also he would wet mop all the floors!
my apartment is near about completion, and i just bought those hockey puck kinda lights Jamie talked about, they're like the norm in Indian households these days, especially if you're getting a false ceiling done. I just wanna Thank Jamie for the insight, that the dirty hand prints are a possibility if one is not careful...i'll definitely be telling my electrician to wear those surgical gloves!! Thanks a lot!!!
Arlo is a BadA$$. That man is so good at everything he does, and the finds a crappy job and just does it. Maybe he complains off camera, but I've never heard him complain once. Serious KUDOS to Arlo!
As a long-time painter, the reason you don’t paint pressure treated lumber when it’s wet is that the paint doesn’t seat properly. The paint is prone to peeling and doesn’t wear as well in high-traffic areas.
It's good to have Arlo around for all his expertise, not just for painting. Where would you be without him? 🤗Your entire team is necessary and they all do a great job! 👍 That is a lot of paint yours went thru! Nice job guys! 👍👍👍
I recommend for your next project using Sheetrock Tuff-Hide primer. This will give you a level V finish without having to apply a skim-coat of joint compound.
When we pulled up the carpet in our 35 year old house (new to us at the time) and I can pretty much guarantee that the builder did ZERO scraping or vacuuming of drywall gunk and dust… wish you guys built our house. Freaking awesome prep work!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Jamie - make reminder lists in your phone for different days. Click the items you need off as you put them in your truck. Next time, go to “show completed” and uncheck everything. Then recheck it as you put it in the truck. Never forget again!
I like the new beard, Ray. I noticed it last video, too, and was happy to see it return today. It's good to have Arlo around for EVERYTHING! He's done it all.
I had a old man tell me 15 years ago, to strain your paint through a pirate of pantyholes, and have a dedicated bucket for the gun He was a professional painter. It helps big time.
I did a very high end bathroom remodel last year, and the customer demanded a semi-gloss ceiling paint on a smooth texture. That was a pain in the butt, but it looked really good in the end.
Painting PRO TIP, if you're painting with any water base paint, using acetone congeals the paint making it HARDER to clean off, it will clean off, but it's globby. Hot water is the best and cheapest solution to clean water-base paints off or out of machines. Disassemble a spray gun and throw the parts in a hot cup of water to loosen the paint and then pick them out one at a time scrubbing with a cleaning brush and hot water. For hoses, pumps and sprayers, flush them with a bucket of hot water.
The two subcontractors that never finish cleaning up after themselves: Sheetrock and Electricians. On the plus side, I've got more crimps, wire nuts and scrap copper than I'll ever need.
I'm sure you guys have heard this before but when I was painting 2 part epoxy paint for commercial fishing vessels an older fella told me to cover all my exposed skin with a thin layer of bag balm. Paint doesn't get into the skin and whips off easy
12:50... I always use a big pair of channel locks to open up those 5 gal paint buckets, especially if they've been used before there will be dried paint around the cap and there's no way you're opening that with your fingers.
Hey, we're back to the duplex, I've been waiting for this. Some of the work (like vacumming) (or painting!) looks really sucky. But the end result is what counts. But I bet you're really glad when it's finally done.
I find the best way to remove dust from a shop vac filter is to drop it into an empty 5 gallon bucket with lid and shake the crap out of it. Then when you remove lid the small dust can be emptied out.
Just a suggestion. Request that your drywall crew tapes down red rosin paper before they mud and sand the drywall, that way you don’t have to scrape and vacuum every inch of flooring when you get back in there after they’re done. Especially the overspray and chunks of dry mud on the floor. You can just fold it up and throw it out. Whatever cost it takes to put it down is likely cheaper (and obviously easier) than the alternative.
Handprints/fingerprints, on the ceiling especially, aren’t only from dirty hands. It’s actually more so caused by the oils on the palms and fingertips that are left behind that attract dust. So it looks clean for a few days and then it gets worse! Always use disposal gloves when working on electrical, especially on the ceiling flat paint!
Hey Jamie, Lids on 5's are awful. Here are two solutions. First, many of the paint tool makers have a special tool for this. Also, a canning jar lid tool often has a close fit opening that works on paint cans.
Not sure where this belongs but, your pro tip about using a bag for a shop vac was awesome. I never thought about it but, I'm remodeling our kitchen and that tip saved me a lot of filter banging to clean it Awesome tip.
Some bags filter better than others too, so pay attention to the label. Can get ones with minimum filtration for highest suction or max filtration at the cost of some suction, whatever works best for your situation.
FYI formica samples make excellent scrapers and putty knives, I have 2 full chains of em in my workshop, I get mine free from my tile supplier. They also make good shims.
I've painted pressure treated a few times before at my place, and the only issue I ever had was the paint tool a while to dry. Like a full couple days. And that's tough with a dog and kid wanting to run around on the deck
I’m watching the video where you guys return to the duplex and start construction clean up (I knew my company wasn’t the only one!) and the Vevor commercial shows a much more finished duplex!
Because the ad was shot more recently than the video. The house was likely completed a couple months ago and we're just now seeing the video because of the backlog of footage.
They have a backlog of videos. Editing is way slower than doing the actual construction. I have a backlog of videos on my personal channel that need editing 🤦♂️😂🤣😂. On my other channel for my actual business that makes me money, I pay someone to edit and it’s glorious. I HATE editing videos. It sucks and time consuming…
You guys are probably already done with the duplex but I was watching one of your old videos and saw how you guys do your cabinet handles. Granite I am no builder as I am just a college kid who has been working on job sites in the summer ever since middle school, but my brothers father-in-law is my boss and he has a tool made by Kroger jig. it is a cabinet handle jig kind of thing where instead of using a block of wood that you guys tried and it didn’t work so hot. you adjust these plastic things that have metal inserts and it can adjust the height and the width and you can start the holes and then pull the jig away and go through the rest of the way rather than spending forever and a day measuring. At least that’s how it feels to me when I had to measure out the holes before I got the jig.
There's probably a reason not to do this, but when I plug a power cord to an extension cord, I do a quick overhand knot with the cords before plugging them together. Takes the strain off the connection itself if you accidentally stretch the cord.
Those weren’t weeds in the ports John. Those were herbs in Jamie’s throne room lol. And, it’s crazy to think Jamie allowed his identity to be know by all of his loyal followers…Captain White Out lol. The mask was awesome.
I'm glad you guys are back on this. What the heck happened? "Oh, well, we got tired of working on this, so we decided to go do something else." I stopped watching after the last episode, so if you explained it in one of the following videos, I missed it. I was thinking the duplex was going to be Jaime's retirement project, or something.
I wonder if Houzz Pro could have a feature like "supplies / equipment needed for given tasks" such that you could save time on jobs by being able to see everything you might need to do a given stage of a job? As to allow you to not need to spend the time running around getting all the things and realising you're missing stuff each time
Just to let you know they paint the ends of green logs that are going to sit and dry out before there cut into lumber just so they don't check and crack so bad,
Can you build a garden wall to split the back porch in two? As an apartment dweller that has lived in duplexes and townhouses before privacy is a wonderful thing to have when you live next door to a stranger. If
If you oil base primer the bathrooms- you can go over oil paint with latex paint- but you CAN NOT go over Latex primer with oil finish…the oil base primer will seal the ceiling way better for moisture prevention- which helps with bathrooms due to the fact the blue board sheetrock will not warranty it being installed on a ceiling- which stupid cuz that’s where moisture gathers in the corners the most. just my 2 cents Edit: I have heard it said the posts need time to dry so the finish material will not blister off the post- so translucent material would be good. So if your posts are not blistering keep going with immediate coverage
Great work guys! Please protect yourself from the paint overspray. Wear a protective suit of some sort. Your skin is absorbing all of those chemicals in the paint.
As a painter my reasoning for not painting pressure treated lumber right away is that the paint can lock in the moisture/chemicals and cause it to decay and rot faster.
I have just discovered y'all and have been binge watching for 4 days. I think y'all are absolutely wonderful. I think Arlo loves Zip tape as much as I love him.

If you will cover the exposed parts of your face with a liberal coat of Vaseline the paint will easily wipe off with a dry rag.
You need some air blowers for your compressors blow out those stairs those corners the vacuum filter.
You all should be thankful of Arlo. He saves so much work with his ideas.
Arlo is old school genius should be running the world
Lmao , they are best friend , of course they will even without you mention about it
Jaime's nose contrasting the painted top half of his face is great!
Thank you for letting Jaimie talk! The reverse super hero probably helped. Good to see the house getting done. Keep it up!

The drywallers might charge extra for cleanup, so the Perkins' might negotiate a lower price for the service in lieu of cleanup.
Ray, I love your beard trim. Look’s good man.

It was great seeing my favorite superhero, Paintman, in the video.

Jamie uses it as an excuse to not clean. Lol. He will always have a reason to leave.
I was totally caught off guard by Ray’s beard being trimmed!!
Man... I missed this series. Randomly checked to see if it was back and there are a lot of episodes! Happy says.
I like the new beard, Ray. I noticed it last video, too, and was happy to see it return today. It's good to have Arlo around for EVERYTHING! He's done it all.
Arlo is the corner stone of you crew. What a legend.
What amazing job Arlo is very smart your whole crew is amazing ❤
Finally! I wondered if we were ever going to see the completion of this 🏠 again.
Erik we need a new truck tour! I’m dying to see more about that beauty
5 gallon bucket pouring spouts are a life saver for keeping those caps unburied! Worth the couple bucks to keep your sanity!
I had a old man tell me 15 years ago, to strain your paint through a pirate of pantyholes, and have a dedicated bucket for the gun He was a professional painter. It helps big time.
Great work you guys doing. Learn something new all the time. Oh Yeah Arlo needs a raise. :)
I bought a 30' shop vac hose from amazon that is super flexible that I love. Saves a lot of dragging the vac around.
I did a very high end bathroom remodel last year, and the customer demanded a semi-gloss ceiling paint on a smooth texture. That was a pain in the butt, but it looked really good in the end.

Can't wait to watch the last part and sea the final result❤
If you've got your compressor on site and a blowgun it cleans out the vacuum filter really well, just try to stand upwind of it.
Hey, we're back to the duplex, I've been waiting for this. Some of the work (like vacumming) (or painting!) looks really sucky. But the end result is what counts. But I bet you're really glad when it's finally done.

Arlo is a treasure to Perkins Builders.
the Asbestos remediation crews I worked with would put up painters tape first and then use duct tape to attach their poly.
This video is truly enlightening! Thank you for sharing.

Guy...you can absolutely get channel locks on that paint lid.
Hi from NZ,
Normal gas for your vehicles does the same as acetone. Actually makes the paint wrinkly and satisfying to pull off in one go.
I just completed these series yesterday and you dropped another part , nice .. I love the construction work, from India .
They make a wrench for unscrewing those paint buckets with the cap. Usually in the paint brush area, at least at home depot.
I’m watching the video where you guys return to the duplex and start construction clean up (I knew my company wasn’t the only one!) and the Vevor commercial shows a much more finished duplex!

I use the same "Jamie method" for cleaning off the suction hose on my sprayer!😂 So much easier than jacking with a paint covered rag!
There's probably a reason not to do this, but when I plug a power cord to an extension cord, I do a quick overhand knot with the cords before plugging them together. Takes the strain off the connection itself if you accidentally stretch the cord.
If you do a surgeon’s knot it puts less strain on the plug ends if it gets pulled.
As a electrical salesman, CES Marion, it seems the can lights are a thing of the past. Most of my guys have switched to the "puck light".
Those weren’t weeds in the ports John. Those were herbs in Jamie’s throne room lol. And, it’s crazy to think Jamie allowed his identity to be know by all of his loyal followers…Captain White Out lol. The mask was awesome.
Love it! Back to the duplex 👍🏼
Constructioneers (I know this isn’t an actual word) using dental tools. Amazing.
Are you allowed to say "through the cracks" while filming in the porta potty?
Filter wrench on the primer lid. It works really well for me
Y'all earn every penny. Good job fellas
Get a 3M hand masker to mask windows and doors. Much easier than cutting plastic and staples
Love the new truck Eric.

Can someone get him to ask his crew "WHY SO SERIOUS" looking very Joker'esk there after painting. LOL
Pro tip for Jamie. Spray sock.
Just to let you know they paint the ends of green logs that are going to sit and dry out before there cut into lumber just so they don't check and crack so bad,
A flat head and a hammer to get the little cap off. It works really well!
Take the leaf blower and blow the upper level dust and debris downstairs....PRO TIP

Jamie the super hero! 😂
Kilz 2 is a thin primer. It’s not a very good drywall primer not a lot of solids. PVA Type primers are best for drywall.
If you oil base primer the bathrooms- you can go over oil paint with latex paint- but you CAN NOT go over Latex primer with oil finish…the oil base primer will seal the ceiling way better for moisture prevention- which helps with bathrooms due to the fact the blue board sheetrock will not warranty it being installed on a ceiling- which stupid cuz that’s where moisture gathers in the corners the most. just my 2 cents

I have just discovered y'all and have been binge watching for 4 days. I think y'all are absolutely wonderful. I think Arlo loves Zip tape as much as I love him.
If you shopped at the orange apron store, they sell lid wrenches for that bucket cap!😂
How about a job site conex box with a camera to watch it. Good for storing tools and material. Would probably save on traveling back and forth
I would really love to see you guys back roll your primer 🤙🏽
use a screw drive to to punch the site of the paint cap. like a electric connector for JB
You can drill a hole in your vacuum attachment to prevent it from getting sucked down to the floor
Been seing that beautilful ford for a couple episodes now, wondering when we'll get a tour of it
You know what they say about Chili's..."It's all about the pepper-ation!"
use multi fit oil filter wrench to take off those 5gal paint caps
Jamie looks like an anti-hero after all that ceiling painting.
"Painting is 85% preparation, 10% perspiration, and, 5% application." ~ Mark Twain ....
Another awesome video
A little sneak peak of the duplex! :D
How long is the queue to hire you guys to build a house???
I've never seen construction workers that pay so much attention to details
On the paint buckets, is it not a collapsible spout? I think you can pull it up so that the cap clears the top, and easily unscrew it.
