Love the transparency and seeing you get more comfortable with your new home away from home! (“Longing for Sweden” would make a great album/band name, btw.)
The honking must be someone selling bread or other groceries, as it is common in Portugal, on little villages, to have people selling groceries in vans, coming from bigger villages and cities.🙂
I love how both of you are so excited about every new thing you encounter on the farm. Changes are scary but we need them to grow. I had a friend who was originally from China who went back there for a one-month visit. After a couple of weeks he needed a break from the frantic atmosphere and longed for western culture so he went to Ikea.
My paternal grandparents had a persimmon tree in their backyard when I was growing up, and the trees are scattered throughout my parents' neighborhood in the same town. Cookies are the most popular thing to make from them, and when I saw your tree, that was the first thing that came to mind! They also look lovely just used as a decoration in a bowl with greenery as an arrangement.
@@tranquiloaugust I can get you a recipe if you would like. Just let me know...happy to share. Also, my maternal grandparents had fig trees in their backyard. They make amazing preserves/jam. Rain and "natural fertilizer," of course, to keep them growing; just watch out for the wasps. Can you tell I grew up in an agricultural region? LOL
I love these vlogs so far! They are very chill and it's so fun to see both how optimistic and at peace you seem to be! This one was hella funny as well!
the honking is the fresh bread truck, or if your by the coast fresh fish truck. And the persimmon fruit, usually just peel back the skin and eat/suck on the fruit flesh.
Yeah, some roads are rough, especially in rural areas, and they're on the GPS so be careful (it's an adventure XD). Roasted chestnuts are the best. There're Magustos (local gatherings) around and on st martin's day (Dia de Sao Martinho), to eat roasted chestnuts cooked by the fire, it's awesome. Hope you're feeling better now :) and since you're in rural PT I would say either the bread or fish van.
hi folks...Persimmons are not usually cooked. They can be added to a dish like an apple pie for interest, but the flavour tends to diminish with heating. Persimmons are best enjoyed lightly chilled and eaten from the hand or with a spoon if they have developed their full jelly potential. The skin is edible but not usually eaten. Add to yoghurt, fruit salad, or serve with ice cream for a welcome change of colour, texture and flavour. Firmer types of persimmon make a wonderful and colourful addition sliced or cubed into salads and make an inventive sliced topping for cakes or pushed into muffins before baking.
Homesickness in many ways is simply feeling unfamiliar. I have been "homesick" for places that were not good for me mostly because I was somewhere unfamiliar. You got this.
I love how open you are with your feelings about all this and that you share your thoughts with us. Change is always scary but it helps us grow. And having this experience with your special someone will bring you two even more together ☺️ Enjoy this new chapter in your life 😊
Thank you for telling me that. I want to try and keep these vlogs as true and accurate as possible which of course also means that I will share the feelings that are not elated and exthatic. It’s scary to be vulnerable like that, but it really feels right and it is kind of therapeutic for me to just talk things through with the camera.
I’m re watching your videos. I can relate with both the excitement and the discomfort and homesickness of this change. So curious where in Portugal you moved and how did you find you property??
Just happened to stumble on your blog, and really like it! Love Portugal and the northern part especially, and excited for your new life there. I’m an Israeli who moved to the US many years ago… persimmons are common in Israel, and we just eat them as you would an apple. They’re very sweet (provided you have the right kind). Good luck and lots of joy for you two, I’ll keep on following!
i think the cow was saying to the other one to mooove over here! not sure what type of persimmon that is but be warned some types are very bitter until fully ripe and fairly soft. we would get them in at the local produce shop i worked at in the fall and some would think they were some kind of weird tomato, but then try them and come back for more c:
The French seem to be into chestnut paste and one of my best friends in Vancouver is obsessed with chestnut cake which can usually be purchased in T&T (Asian) supermarket at the bakery counter.
I have just subscribed to your channel. Good luck. Can you give us a tour of the property and the buildings ? As well, let us know how much you paid ? People that watch these channel's love to know the price of things. Thanks and keep up the good work so far.
Hey! Thank you for subbing! I have plans to do videos on both the purchasing process and the plans for the rennovations so that should probably cover what you’re asking for! 🙂

A little slice of Sweden!
The part with the cow reminded me of the goat scene in Jurassic Park. I kept expecting to hear the distant stomping of a T-rex. 😅
OH NO! I will protect these beasts with my life from now on.
Don't worry. Just enjoy things around

Cookies?! That sounds very interesting. Oh, damn it, I was working towards beach bod 2023. I guess my abs can wait though.

We actually have both here! :)

few things in life taste better than warm bread topped with a fresh grilled sardine.
it's nice that the former farm owner left you a lot of furniture. That's a big help for the beginning
I know, huh?

Thanks for the tip about Sao Martinho. We will look that up. And in regards to the honking, you got it.
i almost started crying when larissa opened the fig. Seeing her so happy! Keep us posted please with these cool videos!
I know, right? She is the best.
Welcome! Honking in the background is usually a sign of fresh bread or fresh fish arriving to town ;)
Yes! I just love it.

Hey! Thanks so much for the tips!
Persimmon you can eat when they get orange and soft.
The honking can be a few things, can be the fishmonger van, the bakery van or the grocery van.
🥳

@TRANQUILO DANG IT! Can't wait to see the next vid so I can see what it is 👀
You maybe living very near a Railroad cross point.?
Good guess, but not correct. ;)

Honking is the Bread or Fish man?

Thanks!
That's kind of normal!
Guys....which real estate agency did you use to acquire your home?
När persimmonen är orange är det bara att äta den med en sked. Det ser ut som honung!
Vi åt en som var rökt på en restaurang för några veckor sedan. Svingott!
Honking = bread van?
;)
