In this video, CBT Nuggets trainer Knox Hutchinson covers what a firewall filter is actually doing as it protects your data plane.
A firewall filter looks and feels a lot like a route policy, but there are key differences. Watch Knox walk you through building a firewall filter from scratch - as he does, he points out how it differs from a route policy and how a firewall filter keeps your network safe and secure.

Can you filter out ICMP traffic?

Hi Joshua, you can filter out ICMP traffic.
From a firewall, you can block any protocol. You'll need to know the name or port used. ICMP has some behaviors that an attacker can use to determine whether or not a device lives at the pinged IP address. There are also many different types of scans that can reveal information about a target. A simple ping is one of them and you can block those requests/responses. Hope that helps!
