On the downside, she doesn't really shape this piece with good legato, and the turns are still more than a little awkward. Still -- grateful to have this performance. Netrebko's timber really is a thing of beauty.

She had everything this role needed except for a complete mastery of bel canto technique. She can approximate and fake her way through it, but it’s not what it should have been. I have always wondered what she could have been had she had more complete bel canto schooling. At least she can trill, which too many Annas cannot.

No, in my opinion Callas was the perfect bolena. And her al dolce guidami is insuperable. Anna Netrebko is a great Anna Bolena . I love and prefer La Callas in most of her singing but this role it's so wel done by Netrebko.
