@@freebeffglitchhmu We’re just saying that Maori cultured is very commonly practiced by many whereas compared to Aboriginal culture it’s rarely practiced. And so it’d be nice if Australians can have the same relationship with aboriginals as foreigners do with Maoris.
Its never too late to start. NZ lucky to have this due to the defiance of few people here and there refusing to let the culture die as well as a few people here and there sharing the culture with everyone and anyone they come across. Now in NZ over 50% of high schoolers are choosing to learn the language and culture. More and more adults are choosing to learn the language and culture and its made a little easy with free classes around the country. All this happened because a few old women in small communities would gather up the local children and teach them the culture so mum can go to work.

New Zealand is a wonderful country, stunningly beautiful with a great people given to understatement. Plus of course having the most successful team in any sport... the mighty All Blacks. They have truly embraced their native culture to produce today a wonderful amalgam of original British settlers and Maori culture that is all their own. These songs move me to tears: so beautiful.
Yes that is why it is so down heartening when people negatively try to portray the pakeha nzers as ripping off the indigenous culture - I now realise is that many other countries have not progressed with their indigenous culture as nz has with theirs, which means inclusion in the country's psyche - it has taken many years but white nz realise their biggest asset to the world is the Maori culture
Well the Maori don't need to embrace their culture, it's already theirs - and the pakeha haven't really - but we've come a long way. I think it starts by saying sorry for all the shit things we did.
New Zealand can be proud to be one of the only westernised countries where the European settlers actually embrace the native cultures language and traditions. I see it when they perform the haka as well. Brilliant
It's because the British forces couldn't overtake us, the Maori were too strong mentally, physically, and emotionally. TUWHARETOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PUKANA BLEH
The early settlers didn't embrace the Maori culture. They actively tried to kill it passing laws that forbade traditional medicines and practices (that now with modern science we know works). They banned the speaking of the language and confiscated land that the people lived on, sometimes violently and in the face of peaceful protest. This doesn't mean that EVERY settler hated Maori or wanted the culture to die out but certainly the settler government did. By the 1860's the Maori population had greatly decreased and the settlers outnumbered them. The settler government treated Maori like a pest, like weeds in a garden and wanted them gone. Things have improved a lot since then, but there are many situations today where Maori are made to feel unwelcome in their own land and that we are an inconvenience to the western agenda.
