A Lesson From This Amazing One Armed Guitarist: How I Learnt To Play The Guitar With My Hook

- Keith Xander was born with only half a right arm. Despite this he grew up determined to pursue his dream of being a guitarist. After a music teacher taught him how to use his hook as a plectrum he went on to hone his skills with acoustic guitar. Along with his older brother Stuart, Keith began busking and went on to support major bands including Bon Jovi and The Doors. Today he’s lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for ‘Xander and the Peace Pirates’ and the band are recording their second album.

I’ve watched these in the Cavern Club, Liverpool. Phenomenal band!
I’ve not long got home from the Liverpool Guitar Show where I had the pleasure of seeing the band for the first time. If anyone reading this has the chance to see them live then I urge you to go and see them. Great songs, soulful playing from each band member and, as I only learned towards the end of their set, one hell of an inspiring guitarist.

My father ,if he were still alive ,would have loved this guy .My dad lost half his hand in a sawmill accident as a young adult.He still picked with his stump and wasn't bad.

These guys slayed at Bumper in Liverpool when I was at UNI 2007-2010, Keith destroyed Purple Rain every sunday night, 3:11 is how he was every time I talked with him, awesome dudes, still thinking about it

I have one arm like him and I made one of those prosthesis for pretty cheap and I know how to play the ukulele and just starting to play the guitar.
