I have heard so many versions of "Lemminkäinen's Return" but this was like hearing it for the first time. Such energy and vitality!

Listen to him conduct the 1st symphony (Sibelius) with the Oslo P.O. and Kullervo (Finnish R.O.) (both on Y.T.) both are outstanding!

    Wonderful playing and conducting.
I have the Horst Stein recording of the entire suite. Youthful Sibelius, full of vigor, beauty, elemental menace, melancholy, and noble majesty. Maestro Saraste, an excellent 'Lem's Return'!

the brief 11 second transitioning section at 5:40 with the three upward modulating phrases of an 8 note motif is something so cinematic - obvious to one's ears how Hollywood composers drill downed and borrowed Sibelius' style here
