Seeing this is painful to know that African descended people born in America were subjected to a subhumanized standard of living. Yet this is the type of subjugation Antebellum America insisted upon to the detriment of the Black Family experience during this Era and for several generations thereafter. It amazes me to think that after Emancipation we didn't have Steve Wilkos or an Oprah Winfrey to help us navigate through the consistent trauma we endured day in and day out. Yet we found a way to rise above our struggles and leave a lasting legacy of immense resiliency in the face of insurmountable odds. From this community we produced the Ben Carsons, Michael Jacksons, Oprah Winfreys, Michael Jordans, Selena Williams, Tiger Woods, Michelle Obamas, Tuskgehee Airmen, Tom Joyners, Condoleeza Rices, Whitney Houstons, Beyonce Knowles, Tupacs, and John Singletons of the world. As Maya Angelou stated, "Yet still we rise!"
So sad 😢
