Seeing whole houses fly through the air is insane. Ill never forget driving back from Colorado and running into the moore tornado. Was the most intense shit ive ever experienced.
True. Same with the larger water tower in my hometown of Colonial Heights, VA. Though I don’t recall what category the tornadoes were but it hit the exact spot twice about 15 years apart. It’s still standing
I want to see a tornado chaser video another chaser getting their TIV thrown 5000 feet in the air and thrown half a mile out into the middle of a corn field. Now that would be must watch TV.
@Mark Hammond Most of what is throwing are grain storage silos made of corrugated galvanized sheet metal. They are lightweight, high-drag objects and easily lifted. At 0:48 a much heavier object is thrown, from here it does look like a house.
I live in Nebraska and yes I do remember this tornado and other ones near my home town but i think this tornado has and forever will be the scariest tornado ive seen in Nebraska
Hello, my name is Autumn, and ever since I can remember I would look at the cloud filled sky’s, while my parents yelled at me to come inside, “it’s not safe”, they said. I never listened to their warnings, until, the first time I saw a tornado. Back then We didn’t have a basement. Which in my opinion is suicide because we live smack right in the middle of tornado alley, Wichita Kansas. My mother rushed me and my twin sister into the car and we headed to my Nana’s. I stared in awe as we passed the funnel. On that night I decided I was going to be a meteorologist...I was in 1st grade. Sounds ridiculous, right? Well if you think that was just an empty dream your wrong. Because since that day I’ve never forgot. I’m a sophomore in high school, I’ve planned out everything. And I can’t wait to be a tornado chaser, look out in a few years your gonna have some competition 😉
Autumn Michelle That’s awesome! Ever since the April 27th, 2011 outbreak occurred (I was in Kindergarten at the time) I was so interested in severe weather. I have wanted to see a tornado since then, and I don’t see myself changing my mind anytime soon.
That’s just sad to see! It’s one thing to see a tornado passing through open farmland or grassland where no people lives. It’s really sad to see a tornado completely tearing up a town like that.
That thing had no mercy what so ever. Slung everything in the air. Had to be a nightmare for everything except the chasers. Really great footage and video
It's definitely not. That's obviously sheet metal. Houses do not stay intact when they are hit by tornadoes, they are torn into small pieces of debris like most of the small debris in this one.
What many people dont realize is there was almost a 3rd. Was 5 miles south of town watching those 2 move through and see a 3rd funnel touchdown and go back up.
I live near goshen Alabama. F5 came thru, bout 30- 33 years ago. Some friends lost there home. When they got back there, even the concrete from basement floor was gone!
Don’t know if you’ll see but today during ur presentation I was saying to my friend “I’m so surprised the water tower hasn’t fallen” also I have completed just binged watched tornado videos after the presentation too :)
Oh yeah. This thing looks very violent. Like the wynnewood tornado but wider. The storm in dodge dropped some super fast rotating tornadoes too. I wonder if that’s a thing with cyclic supercells.
Has a water tower ever been toppled by a tornado? They seem to be indestructible. Just curious. I dont recall ever seeing a video of one being destroyed.
@@stevenbender66 No, you don't. How can just believe whatever a random stranger tells you on internet. Believe me, I've not a seen a single such video and it makes sense as they have built specially for withstanding tornados.
There are beautiful looking tornadoes, there are ugly tornadoes, and there are tornadoes that just look like death. The Pilger tornadoes were always pretty ugly looking - large, violent tornadoes - but the one close up just looked like death. You knew you were watching people die.
@@stevenbender66 - Hey, Steven. I'm gonna go with the tornado influencing the bolt's shape. This was the line that did it for me. "The propagation of the lightning channel follows a path of the least resistance, which is not a straight, but, a zig-zag line because impurity or moisture in the atmosphere causes the air to be ionized in different directions."
Jace. Excellent. A very informative answer, and after doing a little research of my own, I came very close to this conclusion. Thanks so much for taking the time to teach. Cheers mate.
A man and his wife were coming towards Pilger when he got a start to finish video of the whole tornado going through the entire town. That particular video has seemed to have disappeared or has been used in parts of other's videos. Does anyone know where this unique video went?
I am glad that someone else also knows what I am taking about. Something devious happened there. It was one hell of a video and it's too bad it'd been ripped off or took apart in pieces. I remember the wife was concerned with the tornado on the right and the husband who was driving said something to the effect, "forget that one, look at the one starting to enter the town and it's going to go right through the whole town down main street and destroy the whole town!"
Yeah, I definitely know the one you're talking about. The guy in the car keeps saying "no...no...no" as it is going through town and then tells the woman in the car not to cry, as she starts crying. I'm wondering if a TV show used it and then claimed it as theirs. I saw another video on here with a TV chase team using what looked like some of that original video, in their video. Go figure; still the original one was really good.
If nobody died and property destroyed, I think they are the most mesmerizing natural phenomena on the plant, and there still so much that we don’t know about them. Hopefully in the near future they will find a way where they know exactly where one will form before it happens. It would be the holy grail, for all those who studied and followed the tornados all their lives
Take note at the end I've heard storm chaser say if your watching a twister and all of a sudden u get cloud to ground lightning next to the twister that means its about to put another twister down or satellite (twins)
You and everyone else. Scientists know the right storm conditions and even how they form (hint: they don't actually drop down from the sky), but they still don't completely understand the structure or why some stay small while others grow to town-eating monsters.
At 50 sec, after a big piece of metal shoots up into the tornado and get thrown back out again, near the rear. In the lower right side just above tree top level, it looks like an entire house is lifted and thrown out the backside of the tornado. Is it a house?
Earlier bits were large grain bins and the later was a house. I know because I was there. Live 3 miles south of town and the sucker missed our house by a half to quarter mile. My neighbor was locked in the bank vault as it went over with the owner of the bank hiding in the makeshift basement expecting to die. The vault could only lock from the outside and they would get sucked out if he didn't. So he just found the best spot to hide he could and prayed.
