I give with most of your choices, but not putting Hereditary at S is WILDDDD. Toni’s performance alone makes it worthy of that spot. Either way, seems like you have a fun channel. Definitely subbing.
Thank you! I'm pretty active on my Community tab and live stream as well, so feel free to drop any movie or video topic recommendations too. Hope you enjoy the channel!
Lamb is not profound? It tells an amazing story about loneliness and the nature of motherhood. A mother steals a child. Can you steal from nature? How much can you steal? Are you the part of the nature? Are we prepared to deal with the anomaly? How do we deal with it? Is it an anomaly after all,or not? Jesus,so many questions,so many observations. And you say it is not profound?
I'm very particular about what I give an S too; that way it's more meaningful. I do like A24 films (most of the films on this list got A or B) but I don't consider any of them to be masterpieces. Saying that, Under the Skin comes close and I probably could've given an S to that.
@@ClearCritique Fair enough! I'll have to keep an eye out for your other tier lists if you do them. Curious as to what you consider S tier. In any case, I can't be too upset at the guy who is the only reason I watched Incantation.
Under the Skin and Midsommar would be close. Some of my S-tier movies would be Jaws, 28 Days Later, Silence of the Lambs, Children of Men, Apocalypse Now, The Matrix, Parasite, Wall-E, The Banshees of Inisherin and Goodfellas. I did a couple other tier list videos about Pixar and Dreamworks. I'd love any recommendations on future topics!
Although I don't agree with all of your rankings I think you're way off base with the blackcoat's daughter. It's exactly the pace that it's supposed to be. I'm a huge fan of Beyond the Black rainbow which is very similar in that it's a movie you have to allow yourself to be absorbed into.
@@chrisbergmanniii59 I was half falling asleep when I watched Blackcoat's Daughter, which I wouldn't recommend, but in that moment it was perfect. It flowed through me like a dream
Nice to see the love for It Comes at Night. It's exactly what a post-apocalyptic film should be: tense, bleak and very sad. (That last scene, oh my God)
I agree with the ranking EXCEPT.....'Green Room" is an A movie. Picard/Professor X playing a Nazi is wonderful casting against type. And 'Blackcoat's Daughter' is a B....yea it's slow, but I love ambiguity in horror. I project the lead actress from 'Talk To Me' is going to have a Maika Monroe-type rise in her career.
X is a high A for me, but I agree with hereditary. It’s creepy and pretty good, but not horrifying nor the best modern horror movie. A- Maybe Blumhouse next?
Caveat is my favorite horror movie for several years.. if you haven’t seen it give a try. I’ve watched a million horror movies and it’s hard for me to find any good ones I haven’t seen but that one had me covering my eyes during moments..
I've only seen your top 6, The Lighthouse, Green Room, Beau Is Afraid, and the beginning of Woodshock. I definitely love your top 4. I might have to revisit it, but I never got the hype for It Comes at Night. There's things I really like about The Witch, and it's definitely a better pure horror than The Lighthouse, but I think The Lighthouse is better overall :P
I generally ignore reputation and iconic status when reviewing films. I feel like they wheedle their way into reviews too often. Thanks for the comment!
Hmm…I guess here’s my list 🤷♂️ why not? Lol (and I’ll list em in order as you bring ‘em up) S Tier: Beau Is Afraid (probably my hottest take) A Tier: The Killing of a Sacred Deer (solid A), Hereditary (low A), Midsommar (high A), Bodies Bodies Bodies (low A), Pearl (low A), The VVitch (low A), It Comes at Night (low A) B Tier: Under the Skin (high B) Climax (high B), High Life (low B), The Lighthouse (high B), Saint Maud (low B), Life After Beth (solid B), Lamb (low B), X (solid B), Talk to Me (high B), Tusk (solid B - maybe that’s my hottest take actually), Green Room (high B) C Tier: Men (low C), The Blackcoat’s Daughter (high C) Still Unwatched: Slice, Hole in the Ground, In Fabric, The Monster, Woodshock, Maxxxine (almost caught it in theatres, but then they cancelled the showing when I could go see it) Anyway, looks like I’ve got more catching up to do than I thought. 🤔
Awesome list, thanks! I shared the video with my movie friends via email, none of them are on social media; I've been booted off most of the mainstream ones anyway. heh
How in the hell can you give The Black coats Daughter a D? You say it’s slow but In Fabric a B and Sacred Deer a B. Climax an A?? I guess that says it all. No offense, I mean it is your list. I’m just talking shit! We have our own opinions for a reason.
@@ClearCritiqueto be fair, haven’t seen the monster or Woodshock but at least those *seem* like contained narratives, slice is borderline unwatchable. I also really really didn’t like maxxxine

No S tier? I guess you're not that big of an A24 fan?
Still a good video, though!

Midsommar is S tier in my book.

I love how opinions differ. I loved the climax and the witch but also really loved the man and the Blackcoats daughter.
*Thank you making this awesome video*

Solid feedback. And yes, i hope that actress gets more attention because she was great.

Heredetary in my opinion most overrated horror ever, cant understand why everyone is yapping about it, for Example Midsommar is 10 times better.

Finally someone who can give an opinion on a "A24" movie and not just say they Love it because it's "A24"

Hmm…I guess here’s my list 🤷♂️ why not? Lol (and I’ll list em in order as you bring ‘em up)
S Tier: Beau Is Afraid (probably my hottest take)
A Tier: The Killing of a Sacred Deer (solid A), Hereditary (low A), Midsommar (high A), Bodies Bodies Bodies (low A), Pearl (low A), The VVitch (low A), It Comes at Night (low A)
B Tier: Under the Skin (high B) Climax (high B), High Life (low B), The Lighthouse (high B), Saint Maud (low B), Life After Beth (solid B), Lamb (low B), X (solid B), Talk to Me (high B), Tusk (solid B - maybe that’s my hottest take actually), Green Room (high B)
C Tier: Men (low C), The Blackcoat’s Daughter (high C)
Still Unwatched: Slice, Hole in the Ground, In Fabric, The Monster, Woodshock, Maxxxine (almost caught it in theatres, but then they cancelled the showing when I could go see it)

I genuinely gasped when you said your grade for *_Lamb_* (which I thought was excellent). 😯
Leave my dramatic pauses alone!! I love The Blackcoat's Daughter 😂
I knew it would be an unpopular take haha. I did like the lead performance though.

I love A24 flicks, great list, and I'm sorry, so sorry, but it's pronounced Mid-some-arrrr.
I liked Lamb. It was atmospheric and slowly creepy.

MEN- yeah. You need to know A LOT about women to fully understand this film.
I don’t get the black coats daughter hype.. it’s all opinion here but just didn’t do it for me..
Agree
didnt miss anything with slice, i would say its the worst by far
That’s what I’ve been hearing. Seems like a messy movie

Elevated = boring
Not to be mean here but you might as well not have put S or F there😂.
Probably not, but there's always a chance I may change my rating to an S while I'm going through it.
