Winter Lecture Series: The Holy Land at HMML

“The Holy Land at HMML: The Hinnebusch Archive and Jacques de Vitry’s Historia Hierosolymitana Abbreviata,” is presented by Dr. Jan Vandeburie of Cambridge University in the UK. The lecture builds on the legacy of John Frederick Hinnebusch, OP, whose research archive is held at HMML.
Dr. Vandeburie explores the career and work of Jacques de Vitry, a famed 13th-century preacher who was appointed as Bishop of St. Jean d'Acre in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. While in the East, he composed an impressive treatise containing a wealth of historical and geographical information about the Holy Land, including detailed accounts of Islam and the Eastern Christian communities.
