When I first watched The Holiday, I had no idea what the movie that Miles held up in the movie store was or who the composer he thought was so great was. Years later I fell in love with Ennio Morricone's soundtrack for The Mission; I cried when I'd heard he died. When I rewatched The Holiday on a whim and saw Miles talking about how The Mission's score "changed his world," tears sprang to my eyes. Soundtracks are an essential part of the art of cinema, and this movie-for as good as it is-would not have been complete without the music Zimmer and his brilliant musicians created for it.
