    You Picked the Queens... Mamamoo are the Vocal Queens. They are the ones who set the standard, and are often emulated.
    With Red Velvet being the Princesses
    MAMAMOO(in 2023) joined the ranks of Destiny's Child, The Spice Girls, and TLC as the ONLY girl groups to sell over 70,000 tickets on their FIRST tour in the USA.
    This makes MAMAMOO the ONLY girl group to achieve this milestone AFTER a 21-year gap.
    AND the ONLY Non-English speaking girl group to accomplish such a feat.

    I'm impressed by how much you got about Mamamoo just from knowing a bit about Hwasa's struggles and by quickly grokking the main message of Hip. Mamamoo is indeed often called a woman group in contrast to all the underage and often cutesy girl groups. They've never fit into kpop's standards regarding beauty, fashion or behavior and consequently they've always been one of kpop's biggest shit magnets. Hip is their response to all the hate they've received over the years. They mock their haters as people who spit in their own faces while delivering an upbeat dance track/message song that redefines Hip to mean being yourself and doing your own thing rather than the usual slang meaning of cool or trendy. In the MV they play themselves as Mamamoo (the 1st Universe) and each member portrays three other women in alternate universes who are unusual in one way or another (a boxer, the leader of a glam band with drag musicians, an environmental activist, an entertainment company CEO, a mom with a unique sense of housecleaning fashion, etc). The point of course is that everyone deserves respect for their fashion, career and lifestyle choices rather than criticism for being out of the norm. Unlike most kpop groups Mamamoo isn't afraid to take a stand on social issues such as internet bullying and they often show their support for the queer community via empowering songs that celebrate diversity and individuality.
    I won't blab on about Aya and Egotistic or this already long comment would become thesis length. Let's just say there's a lot to talk about with both of those songs and MVs. As a hint, Egotistic is title track #2 in Mamamoo's epic yearlong four album series 4 Season 4 Color, which is the most complex and ambitious project ever done by a girl group.
    Yes, Mamamoo has lots of r&b songs. It's as though instead of vocal training they marinated their vocal cords in the sound of classic jazz, soul and r&b singers. They have an incredibly diverse discography that includes jazz, r&b, hip hop, latin pop, reggaeton, bossa nova, ballads, rock, EDM, blues and MMM's leader Solar even did a country song for a kdrama OST that sounds like it was recorded in Nashville. Koreans say Mamamoo can sing anything and write a song about anything, with a bunch of crack songs as evidence lol. Between their group, solo and subunit discographies the members have accumulated over 200 songwriting credits, the most by any girl group in kpop history. Btw, each member has a very successful solo career.
    Lol. You're very perceptive. Main rapper Moonbyul is known for her androgynous looks, fashion choices and behavior. Check out the MV for her solo song Eclipse if you want to see more of that side of Moonbyul.
    Starry Night, Destiny and Where Are We Now are excellent choices. Fyi there's no MV for Destiny so I assume you're going to watch the premiere performance on the tv show Queendom, which is safe for reactions.
    There are three main guides to Mamamoo. I'd recommend starting with the shortest one called Why Mamamoo is the Most Underrated Kpop Group. Don't be put off by the clickbait title - it's an excellent video essay about the group. The other two guides are both in two parts. The old gold standard is Purple Hawke's Introducing Mamamoo, which introduces two members per video. Moo YT later updated Purple Hawke's guide with The Mamamoo Introduction Guide of 2022. The first part is about the members and the second gives a chronological overview of their discography. All three are well worth watching. Besides being informative they're all highly entertaining and extremely well edited.
    Have fun getting to know Mamamoo!

    Mamamoo, the vocal queens of Kpop, is a group that is everything that is right in this world, and not just because of how talented the 4 members are and how incredibly gorgeous and diverse their music is. It is also because of the quality of human being that its 4 members have, they are 4 people who are not afraid to say what they think, especially when they believe that something is wrong or when they believe that someone needs support, not for nothing is it one of the groups that speaks openly about social problems and openly support the independence of women and the LGBT issue in a society as sexist and closed as Korea. It is a group where sisterhood also reigns and not only for the cameras, those 4 women are family and they have always made it clear and they do not hide when they fight and get along badly because of what people say, they have always spoken openly about their internal problems as group, which makes their relationship even more indestructible even though they have completely different personalities.

    Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher are my ULT groups. Thank you for taking the time to react to them. For Mamamoo, I recommend "Why Mamamoo is the most underrated group." Many have already suggested Immortal Songs Melody. Also, you should check out Dreamcatcher! They are known as the Dark Angels of Kpop and The Face of Rock in Kpop. Since you said you liked Paramore, I thought I'd suggest them.

    MAMAMOO is an assault on everything all the senses a video can access. Each woman is iconic in their own way. Each is SO smart in how they use their voice, presence, dance, etc... I am definitely a fan of ALL THINGS MAMAMOO. Their "Killing Voice" and "Immortal Songs Medley" should NOT be missed.

    They have quite a bit of R&B, but their best known is I Miss You. It doesn't have an official MV, but since they are best live anyway, watch their performance at Queendom. It's safe to react to with no filters. These women are the gold standard for vocals. The rapper, the one in red you asked about, rarely sings in Mamamoo songs but mostly sings in her solo songs and is an excellent vocalist. Her name is Moonbyul. Moon is her sur name and Byul is her given name. You will often hear her called Moon Star since byul translates to star.

      @@tammyreactz In fact, mamamoo is the reason why the killing voice section was created on Dingo's channel, before there was a similar section but it was only for rappers, Solar, the leader of mamamoo is a big fan of rap and she loved this section, so she wanted to participate, but a section of rappers does not fit for the group that is called the vocal queens of kpop, so the channel opened the new section calling it killing voice since they were not going to miss having live content from mamamoo. So mamamoo's killing voice was the first of that section and became so successful that more groups and vocal soloists have participated.

    (Really, you cannot go wrong with any selection from Mamamoo)

    You probably weren't counting, but Hip has FOUR rap parts, three for Moonbyul and one for Hwasa. Solar has the powerful voice and does the belting, and Wheein has the honey vocals and does the highest notes. Wheein is frequently the least noticed but is actually the most stable singer of the bunch. She is in high demand for OST's, background songs for K-dramas.

    • @anonygent
      @anonygent 3 дня назад +1

      Also, Solar frequently goes out on a limb and does something unexpected, like the unibrow in Aya, but that frequently ends up being the most talked about aspect of the video. Sooo many Indian women expressed gratitude to Solar for doing the unibrow.

    • @anonygent
      @anonygent 3 дня назад +1

      Good job picking up the message. That absolutely is the attitude they all have, and their two main songwriters, co-CEO Kim Do Hoon and former idol Cosmic Girl play up that message a lot. What's funny is that as headstrong as they all are, the three others all consider Hwasa the most headstrong of the bunch. Props to Kim Do Hoon for not firing her and to Solar for figuring out how to lead her.

    Thanks for checking out Mamamoo! They are all such strong women with empowering songs and personalities, they sound fantastic together, and are also all incredible soloists as well! In addition to seeing you check out a guide, I'd also love to see you react to their songs Dingga, Decalcomanie, and Windflower. And I also highly recommend checking out their solo works! For Solar (leader, on the pole in Egotistic) I recommend her songs Honey and Colors. For Moonbyul (excellent rapper, but she mostly sings in her solo works) I recommend Lunatic and Eclipse (or maybe Shutdown, which is a sultry song featuring Seori). For Wheein (the one with the car in Egotistic) I recommend Watercolor and Make Me Happy. And you already seem familiar with Hwasa, but if you haven't checked out her songs Maria and I'm a B, those are what I'd recommend!

  • @sendarian
    @sendarian 11 дней назад +10

    Yes you have the history right, mamamoo was told they were short, not pretty, too thick, too old to debut and their only way to success is to be the best live vocalists on the planet and back it up with extremely well produced live performances. And they did it, they worked hard even street busking because they did not have the funding like some of the other groups. Then after success, proving they are in fact the best vocalists and make the best performances HIP was a massive middle finger to those who disparaged them. And yes these are women not girls, because they debuted older they were in their late 20s with HIp and now in their 30s they sound even better. They do Every genre, every. R&B, reggaetón, big band, jazz, rock in fact they do every genre so perfectly, it is more they make every genre Mamamoo. yes Moonbyul comes of more androgynous and really mamamoo is one of the only groups who fully support LGBTQ, in fact check out Solar's(the power belter on the pole) song Colors performance video for the ultimate of that kind of support. Killing voice, Immortal Songs and the Hwasa show Mamamoo hit songs live, the first is a medley of their songs live, all 3 of these are on it, Immortal songs are covers they did for that contest which they were the first kpop group invited and won many times, they were invited because unlike most kpop groups, mamamoo is vocals first, which is what that contest wanted. The last from the Hwasa TV show is a medley though starts with a full song 1llella, a medley of songs and solos and ends with the full song paint me and extremely wonderful ballad, all to a live band. Destiny, I suggest the queendom version, same with decalcomanie and I miss u. They have over 400 videos to react too. They do over 25 songs every year, albums, solo albums, covers, OSTs, collabs and their individual you tube channels. Besides being known as the best vocal group, they are also known as about the only female group who will go against trends and expectations and do what they want, even to the point of other artists saying mamamoo just does things other groups could not do, some thinking impossible. I did see them live in LA last year, they really are unbelievably great, the vocals seem impossible and the performances are so well produced. Other suggestions the AYA/Dingga aggrabah version, yes you will hear AYA again but that performance is insane. Check out solo albums as well. Solar's solarsido youtube has some of the best covers ever, like michael jackson's man in the mirror she originally did with MJs original band and back up singers. Moonbyul2da, Whee In, Hwasa are the names of the other 3 youtube channels. I do like other groups as well but there really are no other groups that can get to mamamoo's level of vocals and performance.

    Well, since you're mostly on the later tracks, let's hit some of the mid-career ones next: "Dingga", "Gogobebe" (not to be confused with the later GGBB, short for "Good Girl Bad Boy"), and "Yes, I am". If you want a themed reaction, they've done some very good CF's "commercial films", which are bespoke MV's meant as glorified commercials, but the product placements aren't overwhelming. "Gleam", "Woo Hoo", and "Wanna Be Myself"

    Happy New Year! Thank you for this reaction to MMM. They are known as the "Vocal Queens" and once you listen to them live you will understand that statement, even through video. I got lucky May 2023 and was able to see them live in Nashville, best experience of my life!
    When it comes to guides there are a few different ones that people will mainly recommend. The first one is a 2 part member intro by "Purple Hawke" (it was reuploaded by someone else with permission from PH) it is also pre-2020. The second is a 2 part into by "Moo YT" where the first part is the members and the second is a timeline, this one is from around 2022.
    A new version of an into video of sorts is one that's titled "why MAMAMOO is the most underrated kpop group" NOW, please don't take the clickbait title as the be-all, end-all. It is just that, clickbait. The video goes into the history of the group and some of their journey, then a bit of each of the members. Obviously its not all the info, but those three different versions of "guides" would give you a good idea.
    The group debuted June 19, 2014. Their discography is a full mix from jazz, pop, r&b, hiphop, blues, ballad, etc. It's been said that no matter the style of song it is, they can sing it. So much so, there's a saying "BeLisMaMoo" which is "Believe and Listen to Mamamoo". They were the first group to debut for the company "RBW", Rainbow Bridge World. The girls had little support and did basically everything themselves. They didn't work with a full choreographer till around 2019. Being from a small company they got their recognition on vocal focused competition shows, "Immortal Songs 2" being the main one, where they competed against very famous older singers. This past year, 2024, the members have been focusing on their solo work mainly. All 4 have very successful and full solo work.
    Some videos to show their discography/vocals would be: First their Killing Voice video. Fun fact, they were the first group and the reason for Killing Voice to be a thing. It was originally just for rappers with Killing Verse. But the leader/oldest of the group: Solar, kept asking Dingo to be on the show because she loved it, so they made Killing Voice. Another video would be titled: "Immortal Songs Medley" which is an 11-12 minute absolute showcase by the girls from one of their first concerts. They are performing their rendition of famous older Korean songs that they originally performed on the show.
    Members:
    Solar (Kim Yong-sun) '91 - Leader, Vocalist :: Personal YT -> www.youtube.com/@solarsido
    Moonbyul (Moon Byul-yi) '92 - Rapper, Performer :: Personal YT -> www.youtube.com/@moonbyul2da
    Wheein (Jung Whee-in) '95 - Vocalist, Performer :: Personal YT -> www.youtube.com/@wheeintheblank
    Hwasa (Ahn Hye-jin) '95 - Vocalist, Rapper, Maknae :: Personal YT -> www.youtube.com/@HWASA_maria
    There is no official dance line of the group just members more "specialized" in dance, but all of them are strong in every aspect. There are 4 vocalists, 4 dancers, 4 rappers, etc. in this group. I just listed them above as that because that's how they identified themselves to start out. Moonbyul is the most credited female kpop idol with around/over 120 to her name in the KOMCA.
    For song recommendations the ones you have are a good place to start. I would also throw in: "Mr. Ambiguous" (debut), "Wind Flower", "Decalcomanie", and "Um Oh Ah Yeh".
    I hope that you keep enjoying and that you have a fun time listening and getting to know the girls. There are plenty of songs. One of the biggest discographies in KPop. Well over 100 group songs, then solo members songs, and then subunit songs (Mamamoo+ is the official subunit).
    Again, thank you. I hope you have a good New Year. From a MooMoo (fandom name) to you. 💚💚
