I would like to know the reason you don't recommend circle hooks. I thought they were supposed to be easier since you just let the fish hook themselves.

I don't recommend using them in the Puget Sound because bites can be few and far between. Much better to use J hooks in the Puget Sound so you have a better chance of hooking up on the one or two bites you might get. It's very easy to miss them with a circle hook. Offshore where there's plenty of halibut circle hooks are an excellent choice!

I only use circle hooks when there's a lot of halibut around and you plan on releasing a few before boating a keeper. If you're getting a single bite a day stick with J hooks so you don't miss your one chance.

Shoot that's coming up pretty quick. There's only one size of tuna cord that I know of and here's a link to the corkscrew swivels that you'll want to get...shop.johnssportinggoods.com/prodInfo.asp?pid=448&cid=14. I run heavy 200 pound Berkley barrel swivels on either end of the cord. If you call John at John's sporting goods he rigs these up all the time. He can ship you all the stuff that you'll need. Best of luck to you Mike!

You missed the point. Circle hooks are great but not in the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca where the average person gets one bite a day maybe. It's tough fishing...why take the risk of missing that fish. The guys that fish j hooks score every time. Where do you fish Brett?

If I were fishing up there I do use circle hooks, bring your circle hooks down here, the video is talking about Straits of Juan De Fuca halibut fishing, let's see what you can teach us on that 1 or 2 goes a day.
